Re: Baldwin Coal Bunker
开云体育Douglas was a long time member and on the Committee of the Industrial Railway Society, so it is possible that he willed his railway collection and copyrights to the IRS. It might be worth checking with them to see what the copyright possession is on his work; Try David Kitching,

Thanks very much for the clarification David.

I think that I am probably okay given how I am using the original information and the fact that I don't want to formally publish, just share. Douglas was a true craftsman and very particular about identifying dimensions. His drawings were prepared to a much larger scale and looked very impressive but some of the details became obscured when reduced by the 'cross-hare' identification of circle or radius centres. While I was happy to use his drawing as intended, I felt that I needed something less cluttered for some of the details. Regards, Robin -----Original Message-----

Of course, if the original originator is still contactable, it is always a good idea to communicate with them before publishing your own work, they may after all have discovered something else new in the meantime, but there is no obligation too. Hi Kevin, ? I've just started an album 'WDLR Baldwin coal bunker' and added 3 photo's of the coal bunker doors on the Leighton Buzzard Baldwin. No dimensions unfortunately. ? Cheers, ? Mark.? ?

Re: Baldwin Coal Bunker
开云体育Way back in the 1980's, I started doing quite a bit of research into the WDLR Baldwin steam locos. ?I pulled together a few notes, mainly based on the available photographic evidence from books which I shared with a number of people. ?Years later, after meeting Douglas Clayton at an exhibition, I corresponded a bit with him and he was very helpful in correcting a number of my spectacular errors. ?He agreed that I could use his drawing (from Erick Tonks' SDR book) to highlight the various differences between the Baldwins used subsequently in the UK. ?I am not a draughtsman and my sketches were crude. ?We were still debating the best way forward when Douglass, sadly, died. ?I haven't got his permission to publish any of my updates on his drawing but I have found my notes and I am in the process of checking them against more recent publications. ? ? It is still very much work in progress and I am sure that others far more knowledgeable than me can correct them and help us all towards a collective understanding of these fascinating locos. ? I have loaded them onto my own web site so I don’t take up valuable space on the O14 Yahoo Group site. ? Part 1 is here: ?
? which covers a general introduction ? Part 2 is here: ?
? This covers the WHR, GVT and SDR locos. ? Part 3 is going to cover the Ashover and part 4 will cover cab details, but these are a way off yet I am afraid. ? I hope the links work! ? Regards, ? Robin ? From: O14@... [mailto:O14@...]

Re: Figures for Kevin Hughes' WDLR layout
Gentlemen, I have just scanned and uploaded the 2017 Catalogue and Price List for PLM Castaways WW1 figures and accessories, as promised a while ago. It is a pdf in the Files section. It is a long list, so there should be something for nearly everyone. I can attest to the quality and character of the castings from close personal observation, though I haven't bought any of this range as I am not modelling WW1 railways. Regards, Adrian |
Re: Figures for Kevin Hughes' WDLR layout
Hello everyone,
Yes I am on this group although Yahoo plays very strange games on my computer so don't get to access it that often. Yes, a lot of the figures are PLM and they are quite frustrating for even me to get hold of and I live only 15 miles from Phil! There is a new list available that condenses all the various updates over the years - not sure what the etiquette would be on scanning this and making it more widely available although Tim seems to have had no problem getting one direct from Tim. There are various other sources of figures used however although not specifically meant for WW1. I have used WW2 air raid wardens and postmen from Phoenix and Diesel drivers from Dart castings. Heros of the Footplate is another good source of drivers. Figures for this particular flavour of modelling? is a real problem and two things that I would love to be able to do? is to have brakesmen on the wagons and some wagon loads of men as there are plenty of pictures showing this. There have been conversations with like minded individuals to try and persuade someone with a full size laser scanner to visit a reenactment possibly up at Apedale to get some suitable poses scanned in but nothing has come of it as yet - does anyone have the enthusiasm / connections to get this moving? Kevin. ? |
Re: Figures for Kevin Hughes' WDLR layout
David, Its not mysterious, it is just a bit old fashioned and, I acknowledge, jolly frustrating for those who have little or no chance of ever seeing Phil's very well-presented stand at the selected shows he attends. Phil professes not to have the time to do all his 'normal' work AND deal with putting a huge range of items on to the web and then dealing with all the updates as he is so prolific. It is his choice and he certainly seems not to NEED web sales or presence as he is as busy as he wants to be without. Adrian |
Re: Figures for Kevin Hughes' WDLR layout
Thanks, that would be great - it's all very mysterious!
