Thanks David, any photos by David Nicholson will be very helpful. Re the ?loco‘s ?balance, David N did kindly supply me with an upgrade kit which included a cast resin cab roof which should do the trick.?

While I am not familiar with this kit you are all referring to, a method I use for both holding the driving axles within the frame and to mount phosphor bronze pick-ups, I use a piece of circuitboard.
Keep in mind I scratch build everything and have never built anything from a kit, I design in the mountings for this circuitboard.

Allan,
I have yet to build mine, but I'll ask my friend Steve Gardiner who has largely completed the chassis and had it running on a rolling road. Failing that, we both meet regularly with Dave Nicholson who was 'L&B Models', though the next time isn't until December.

I’m (very belatedly!) building the L&B Models kit for “Lyn”, and have reached the stage of fitting pickups. This is easy enough for the rear wheelset, but I can’t figure out how to deal with the front wheelset. All the obvious ideas seem to be obtrusive and/or at risk of shorting out on the intermediate frame stretcher.
Has anyone found a satisfactory solution for the pickups on this loco?

I thought I'd look through the 7mmNGA archives. There was a product review based on a build by Neil Kinnison in Issue 111 of Narrow Lines. Unfortunately, Neil states that he ignored the instructions about the pickups to use his 'tried and trusted' method 'of which more anon'. Sadly, the Association's archives can't be searched by author so I can't see if he ever published this trusty method subsequently!

Not much help re the pickups, but for Association members the rest of the article might prove useful.

Does anyone know of a source for etched slide chairs suitable for Micro Engineering code 83 rail? I am looking for the sort that were made by folding up flat bar, with holes for mounting the plate to the sleepers and the rail.
I have folded some up myself from annealed brass strip, but I think an etching would give more consistent results. (I have even made some full size ones. Now that was fun!)

Michael,
If you're not committed to etched brass, have you tried C&L for some 4mm ABS slide chairs (and fishplates)? KbScale also do ABS fishplates, available from Narrow Planet. IIRC the KbScale fishplates fit Karlgarin 82/7: John Clutterbuck posted a comparison of rail heights in the archive which ought to show if the web height of ME83 is similar.

The PSC fittings are very nice. I placed an order with Paul just before Expo NG and they came very promptly. Probably one of the reasons that his stock is a bit low!

Yes we do ship to Australia but we are having some (a lot) of bother with the overseas shipping settings in our new website. I have made some more adjustments so it might work now. (Bruce, personal message to follow)

We also stock a selection of the PSC loco fittings. Stocks are low at the moment but an order is in and being made up at the moment. Guessing its still a few weeks away though with shipping from the USA to the UK.

Re: O scale NG boiler fittings

Don’t forget Precision Scale - though a US company, their brass casting range includes everything from pipe unions to flag holders and driver springs. Have recently placed and received an order with a group of others in good time and all items were in stock (though maybe we were just lucky!). Other scales and lines also available.
Catalog is at
