HF packet data rates

Hi Michael and welcome to the group.
?
My knowledge is limited, but let's first make sure the TNC is working.
Hook up your MFJ TNC (what model???) to your computer.
Download and run PuTTY (there is a 32 and 64 bit version)
See if you can establish communications with the TNC first.
Depending if your computer has a USB or DB9 serial port, you'll need to determine the com port number by going into Windows Control Panel - Hardware (assuming you're running windows)?
?
Let's start there. But email me some info - TNC model, type of computer and exactly what you want to do.
?
I'm at ww2bsa@...
?
Also, check out for more info on HF packet on 14.105.

I somehow missed the whole "MFJ TNC" part.? Frankly in this day and age you can do much better. Sure, the TNC will work to an extent but it's a Z80 based hardware modem that has long been surpassed by software and DSP modems. It also limits you to 300bd AX 25 whereas a software or DSP modems can do other modes such as IL2P or Robust. Even VARA if you really must.

I realize that you are getting conflicting advice in this email group but for my money and given the hardware available to you I would be doing a software modem. Win10 is a capable platform for software based modems and a sound card interface is trivial if you don't already have one. Keep the MFJ for local FM packet on 2M.

Feel free to drop me a line off list me. My call at the League finds me. There's more than one way to skin this cat.

Hi Mark,
So Dire Wolf is the Most likely software to use with My MFJ Modems? Would that be correct?
I will try and locate DireWolf software as I don't know the others you mention but I know of Dire Wolf a little.
Maybe the others you mention are better. I would certainly like to get receive working quickly. Please advise.

OK ¡. Here you go im going to give you all the combo and easiest way to do packet vhf or hf.you need a sound modem .signal link or rigblaster any thing you can find that creates two virtual comports. Enhanced and standard.A FT 991 A has it built in easiest to make this happen

These comm. Ports are needed to configure the software im? turning you on to. WINTNC V 2.10 and UZ&HO Sound modem ver 114????????? ?????????????????????

While your advice is good - except for the VARA part - (in case you forgot - VARA isn't packet) the gentleman is currently interested in using the equipment he has for Network105.

Getting ready to sell on QRZ my two PK-232 modems with cables and some manuals as I use two SCS modems and do not need these excess modems any longer.

?

Probably will ask 75 a piece not to include PS&T for wherever the buyer is located.

?

As a package w/o shipping costs, I probably would settle for 125 USD if paid thru PayPal (VENMO has been compromised as has been Zelle).
