Thanks but using 74141s so no need for transistors.? Sent from iPhone off & running On Sep 4, 2010, at 7:52 PM, "kosbo_com" <kon@...> wrote:

I have IN-18, IN-4 and GN-4 round circuit boards I use in my 1 digit clocks. Each board has anode resistor , 2 base resistors and 10 smd pre-soldered MPSA42 transistors (2x5 matrix), plus two 2.54mm 4 pins interboard connectors for easy connections to you main board or breadboard. If it's OK for your circuit, please let me know. Best regards, Konstantin www.kosbo.com --- In NEONIXIE-L@..., "DanielK" <kuriloff@...> wrote:

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI would love to know how to build a SMPS, but it seems a bit over my head.? It's probably not, but at the moment, I am working on coding, more than hardware.? The hvps I have I bought from Tayloredge.com? It works great, it just whines.? I think a decent wooden housing, or even something with a bit of foam inside will take care of enough noise.I have an oscilloscope I bought 2 years ago for pennies, I just never learned how to use it!? I am sure I should, seems invaluable in logic and microcontroller applications. I don't like the large (an heavy) 2 transformer solution.? If it ends up being cheaper, I would sure give it a try. Now you come to mention it, I did have a severe problem with my microcontroller communicating with the 74141, the 74141 would not get the high signal properly from the uC I was using.? I ended up just bleeding off 2.3v with an LED, and all is well. Thanks! To: NEONIXIE-L@... From: vk3jme@... Date: Sat, 4 Sep 2010 23:33:36 +1000 Subject: Re: [NEONIXIE-L] Singing Nixie? ? Hi Shane I fiddled around with some different switch mode types using mc34063 and ne555 ics for my Nixie clock. The reason that I used these ICs was they were easily available to me. Unfortunately the noise drove me nuts an I went back to a simpler yet bulkier solution. I use two 12V centre tapped transformers connected back to back using one of the 6V windings. The other winding I use for providing an isolated 5V for the TTL circuit. No more noise! Another thing to consider is if you are using 74141 IC's to switch the cathode of your Nixies, if you can here your PSU, you may find the same noise getting into your logic circuit. Put an oscilloscope on your logic circuit and see if you are getting a HF signal there too. Regards, Jamie VK3JME On 04/09/2010, at 1:19 AM, mimewar wrote:

I have two tubes running now, and each emits a high pitch whine when a digit is lit. I looked around, and I think this is called singing. right? Any way to fix this?
Thanks Shane |

jt Does anyone know who made these IN-18 PCB sockets which were once sold by Moses at All Spectrum Electronics? They are oval shaped and allow close placement of the tubes. I asked Moses but he does not know. |
IMPORTANT: Cross posting between Yahoo! and Google neonixie-l groups...
"Nick"
I should make it clear that whilst anything posted in the Yahoo! neonixie-l group is also automatically cross-posted to the Google Group by the same name, the converse is NOT true.
So, anything posted on the Google neonixie-l group will NOT make its way to the Yahoo! group as the Yahoo! group is now unmoderated and may close. The corollary of this is therefore that complete threads are only guaranteed to be available on the Google group and if you post on and only observe the Yahoo! group, you may miss messages. ..... I'd like to take a break from administrating for a while. In addition to Nick I can think of several members here whom I would support as moderators of a replacement group, whether it stays at Google or moves elsewhere.
A little round of applause from Edinburgh, AJ, it has been easy to sit back and let you get on with it when you have done it so very well, but it is right to recognise that you have done a fine job and can't be criticised for wanting a break now ! If we all leave it will be a bit like leaving a gang hut....but the huts come and go, it is the members who make this group and to be honest, I can't think of any other group who deserves a bunch like us! I'm sure we will carry on just the same as long as the spirit remains. Chris |

Re: Let's all make the jump.

And that's the nice thing about these forums, you can choose to either receive emails, or use the web forum, it makes no difference to the others who participate. I am completely the opposite, if I were forced to use it as a mailing list, I'm gone, I get enough crap in my inbox, and either it distracts me constantly or it gets filed away and I never check it. That's just me though. |
Re: Let's all make the jump.

I hate mailing lists personally. I do all of my forum interaction through the web interface and keep it separate from my personal email. Honestly I've been pretty happy with Yahoo groups and participate in a number of them. Google Groups is probably fine too, although they virtually wrecked Usenet by providing a portal to it without making it clear to users that they were posting to something that was not actually a google group. |
