It's not a switch. It's a power jack.
Typically...
Pin 1 (tip) = positive (from a power supply and to the device)
Pin 2 and 3 would be closed (if nothing is plugged into the jack).

Batteries.
Pin 3 would be batteries. So pin 2 is connected to your device.
Using a power supply (plugged into the jack) would disconnect pin 3
(batteries) from the circuit, so power flows from your power supply directly
through pin 2 to your device.
