I see a number of references to different firmware versions. It is hard to
know what one person are referring to. If the md5 checksum of a binary was
given, there would be no doubt whether two versions are the same.

Of course the other advantage is to check for file corruption too.

Once I get around to boxing mine up, I will start to use it, but I think at
this moment in time I am more than likely to damage it.

Happy to see participation in the group from someone as well known Kirby Microwave. Just wondering why anyone that has thousands of dollars worth of lab equipment at their disposal has even a passing interest in a piece of hobbyist equipment like the nanoVNA :)

The 8753ES and 8720D are not exactly portable. ???I once wrote a bit of
code that allowed me to keep the 8720D inside, hook that up to an antenna
outside but look at the results on my smartphone. It wasn’t particularly
sophisticated, but it was just about usable. The NanoVNA should be a bit
better.

I intend building a complete SOLT calibration kit for at least SMA and N
and putting the NanoVNA in the same box, so there would be no need to carry
a calibration kit. I think 7-16 would take up too much space, but I will
not totally dismiss that either.
