NanoVNA-V2 from Tindie

Hey.
I ordered on April 6, received in two weeks.

Ordered March 6, delivered to air transport March 19. Did not arrive yet...
Delivery via DHL, Fedex etc is not supported by the seller, I would order a new one if they did.

I ordered on April 6, received in two weeks.

Gabriel,
If I was the seller I wouldn't worry about about a few bad reviews over shipping time. Anyone who doesn't expect long times due to the covid-19 epidemic hasn't been reading the news. I've seen the NanoVNA-V2 offered for sale on eBay for $125-140 usd, so the same Tindie offering of $58 usd is a great bargain even if you have to wait over a month to receive it.

I ordered my NanoVNA-V2 when the first production run was offered and it took 45 days to arrive. I've been more than happy with its price to performance since it arrived. The first production run was sold out in a matter of weeks. I also ordered a couple of additional NanoVNA-V2's for my ham club when the second production run was offered for sale on Tindie and don't expect delivery until late May or early June. That's just the way it is with borders being locked down and all the additional customs restrictions in place. Tindie doesn't have a lot of control once the order is filled and the shipment is turned over to their carrier. The second production run sold out faster than the first run and buyers should have already been aware of shipping delays due to covid-19 by then.

My suggestion would be for the seller to set up a S-A-A-2 manufacturer support group on groups.io or facebook to directly address any bugs, suggestions, complaints, firmware or software notifications. That would enable everyone to see in writing that they are responsive, something which private emails doesn't permit.

My second suggestion would be to offer a faster shipping option at a higher price except currently all carriers are experiencing the same delays, especially at the Shanghai transfer point.

Hello,

I fully agree. My SAA-V2 is still in transit, but I don't care, as it with
today's issues (COVID) sure takes longer.

I am sorry to mention another group here, but we already have the
/g/NanoVNA-V2/ </g/NanoVNA-V2/topics> if
anyone would like to join us.

Cheers

Luis,
Have you to contacted the HCXQS group and suggested that they link to /g/NanoVNA-V2 from their page for support questions? It would also be helpful if the HCXQS group provided a specific technical support person on your group to help moderate firmware, hardware and software related issues.

I will do it right away. Did not do it before, as I didn't want to hijack
anything official...

When you were doing prototype runs what was the price of JLPCB assembly
service per board?
For ham clubs getting a few boards and soldering a few parts by hand is
maybe an interesting proposition.
How up to date is the gitlab repo for S-A-A?

Hi Gabriel, I can only say they respond in a very correct way to emails. I asked if I could buy another one and get it sent by an express service like DHL or Fedex. Their answer:
The typical total delivery time for ePacket is 30 to 40 days. It may stay in the left origin country state for a few weeks as it goes through customs. If you don’t receive your order within 60 days we can ship another one or give you a refund.
Currently we are unable to ship DHL because our location is outside the coverage area of all major couriers. I will look into it further.

I ordered them March 6, I'll just wait a little longer for my 2 units to arrive. I will write an honest review when I get them.

Gabriel,
It would be great to have a second source for the S-A-A-2. hugen is a reputable and trustworthy seller. He also knows the in's and out's of manufacturing, distribution and user support in the far east. If it is legally possible, you should give strong consideration to hugen as a second production source.

We know you are currently working on S-A-A-2 firmware support for a 4-inch display. A hugen distributed 4-inch 3 GHz S-A-A-2, in a case with SOLT standards and cables for under $100 would create it's own market.

Gabriel,
I asked hcxqsgroup about a 4" S-A-A-2 and they responded:

"The 4’’ screen version is awaiting firmware support and PCB re design, which may take a few more months."

I understand they are waiting for your 4" firmware support but I wasn't expecting "months" for that to occur. The PCB re-design should only require enlarging the current board to allow mounting holes the plug-in 4" (3.95") display module.

I also asked about my pet peeve of the S-A-A-2 going into "USB Mode" whenever a command is sent to it and requiring power cycling to exit. They responded:

"The exiting USB mode problem is being worked on and should be fixed by next firmware release in a week or so."

So I assume this is something you are currently working on unless hcxqsgroup has taken over some of the firmware and software support. It's not clear to me what the current relationship is between hcxqsgroup and OwOComm regarding software, firmware, and hardware support.

Thanks for clarifying Gabriel. I had to look up "moonrunes" as I'm not familiar with the term. Am I correct in believing that it is to add Japanese characters as a language option?

Awesome, I will see if some of the locals are interested.
Thanks

The PCB+partial PCBA would cost around ~$50 for 2pcs, and only slightly

more for 5pcs. That will give you a board with one side populated (all the
passives other than the baluns and the FBMH1608 ferrite beads). However it
is a 5x10cm design, and you can fit in another 5x10cm design without
additional PCB cost. Make sure you select the 0.2mm prepreg stackup
(JLC7628).
Usually when I do prototyping runs I will combine many projects onto one
board. If they are only separated by a silk line (no v-cut or long slots)
there is no extra charge).
The commit 39d648 is the "golden" production version.

I'd buy one in a heartbeat!

Holger,
Dislord modified the firmware of the NanoVNA-H4 to allow 201 display points. He also provided a patch to Hardware.py to allow NanoVNA-Saver to grab 201 points per segment.

The S-A-A-2 also is able to collect 201 display points but your NanoVNA-Saver beta branch for the V2 defaults to 101 pts. Can you modify your beta to grab 201 points per segment in NanoVNA-Saver? Collecting 1000 points in five segments @ 201pts/segment is faster than ten segments @ 101pts/segment.

I believe Dislord only had to add datapoints = 201 in the NanaoVNA-H4 class, but the S-A-A-2 looks to be more work. I've only just started testing the waters with Python. Objects, classes and inheritance are at the deep end of my pool.

I order two and it arrives after 2 weeks , I put a good review on tindie . This nanovna-v2 is very valuable , I see they sold out in short time.

I am still waiting mine. I guess it was my fault because I chose the cheapest mail option.
