NanoVNA software on windows 10 x64?

Hello to the group,
I am impatiently awaiting my NanoVNA. Meanwhile: has anyone successfully run software V1.01 on a PC running Windows 10 x64? Almost all my PCs are running under this operating system. Have only one old, lame horse left running Windows 7, which is no fun.
Another question: are there other resources for firmware updates, PC software etc. besides the banggood web site?

By the way I have found some videos on YouTube explaining some features of the NanoVNA. They are in chinese language, but the pictures are almost self explaining.

Regards Ernst

There appears to be a lot of nanovna information/files on the following
github site. I have not gone though it myself but it may be of interest.

Yes, github is for programmers only ;-)
I can load and execute NanoVNA V1.0.1 on my Windows 10 x64 laptop. Tried to load a s2p-file but get "Unhandeled exception". Was a standard s2p file as used by Ansoft Designer, so I do not know why it was rejected. So ist there anything special in s2p files used by nanoVNA? Any experience?

My version only has 2 traces. I saw somewhere there is a 4 trace version. I'm not a SW person, I'm hardware I guess I'll have to reach out to some SW people I know

If someone has created a s2p file from within nanoVNA software, please send it to me (pm) or as attachment, so I can try to load it. Then I can see if the problem is related to Windows or my s2p files.

This is the resource we have been looking for:

It has firmware updates, instructions how to update, manuals etc.

I've updated the software and fixed this bug.

What SW, and what bug?

Fixed the bug that nanovnasharp cannot work properly under a system such as French use "," to separate decimals.

I was able to get v 1.02 working yesterday I did have a couple of hiccups, but go tit working.
Thanks for you help. Not being a SW person, I'm lost if it doesn't work .
I'm really impressed with the little guy.?? I have use much more expensive equipment, and this is good for ham work. I owned an HP VNA, but sold it

Dear Gen ( i hope Gen is your first name)
Glad to meet you in this forum.
Have you planed to make this C# software open source ?
I have the same question for the 900MHz NanoVNA firmware.

David, F4HTQ.

There's no plan for open source nanovnasharp in the short term.
The 900M firmware will comply with the gnu License and open source after fixing some errors.

Hi all :) On good news I have NanoVNASharp running under Linux ... bit of a play and got there ... But cant get the com port to forward through .. A problem lots have and i am sure when I am more awake I'll get wine there. Is there any plans for a native Linux version (I would be happy to help with testing and coding) as far as I mono would run this program quite happily just there is no support for winforms :( maybe a work around can be found. Failing that Is there a list somewhere of the serial commands and responses to adn from the device and I'll take a stab at a Linux client myself .. will take a while I expect. I am sure if I pile through the python script it is all there just hoping I might be spared that task :P

Yes, it works fine. I have had no issue loading Touchstone snp files from my simulator tool and from the nanoVNA. I am running Windows 10. Note if you have the 2 track unit you will only process s11 functions like Smith, log mag, vswr, etc... if you have 4 track then you can process s11 and s21 data.

If you read in a snp file you will be able to look at all parameters... I believe. I'll check to be sure that is true.

The PC SW reads and displays only S11, S21 so NO the full 2 port S12 and S22 would not be picked up.

Of course, just exchange those rows and you got it.

Alan

Has anyone been able to find an alternative program that works better than NanoVNASharp? It is severely lacking capabilities that the vna itself is capable of reading. An example is VNAJ .

@tim
Hello Tim,
Could you please explain how you got nanoNVASharp to run under Linux/wine.
What DLL's need to be included?
The USB/serial port adoption is explained in:

I've only been using it for a week or so, but no problems on my Win 10 x64 machine (Win ver.1809). Have fun!

If the 900M firwmare complies with the gnu License AND building the firmware from github
only generates one firmware type, presumably the 900M
version, does that mean that the other versions, (300, 800, "aa" versions) are NOT GPL?????

I haven't found any way to compile the other versions from github without changing the code.
