NanoVNA App - Installation and Use #applications

Like the raw data calibration facility. Can this application be built on linux?

Nick,
Nanovna-App is opensource and available on github:

Feel free to port it over to Linux - if you dare.....;-)

My fork for this App:

Autor write it on C++ Builder (Use free Embarcadero? C++Builder)
This allow compile application on different platform (Windows, Android, iOS, macOS и Linux) Need use not free RAD Studio

You want a Linux compatible way to calibration from raw data?
You might look at SciKit-RF - a python package that does all the needed calculations, as well as drawing plots/smith charts, etc.

An example of calibration:

some sample code attached below where I'm experimenting with measuring a cable and then using it to extend the reference plane to the end of the cable.

I had no problem flashing the current DiSlord firmware (v1.3.07, see attached screenshot) onto my V2Plus4 (from the first series of devices sold by nanoRFW) using NanoVNA-App v1.1.209 (build by Owen Duffy). However, I have noticed that coloured screenshots taken with the NanoVNA-App look strange (see attached screenshot).

I use the NanoVNA-App v1.1.209 (build by Owen Duffy) together with a NanoVNA V2Plus4 running the current DiSlord firmware (v1.3.07, see first screenshot). I noticed that coloured screenshots look strange (see second screenshot). Is there a workaround for this?

Also, is it best to not calibrate the nanovna itself and just have the raw data out because a person would be using the nanovna.app to calibrate? I would assume if you calibrate the nanvna AND the nanovna.app that would mess up the calibrations?

Yes you are right, I haven't heard anything back on the other forum after i posted my question :(

I think this hardware LCD module problem, my LCD on V2Plus4 also have artefacts on screenshots, i replace module, and after this all ok. I can`t solve this by software (i think use different LCD driver, and i don`t know how init it).
This module on other device also have this problems.

With all the nanovna.app version mod by other people, is there a website that tells what is the difference in them?

Thanks

Why not try and share your learnings?

it does not mess up cause in the app only apps calibration is used and in the device only devices calib is used

they do not interact cause the device (even if calibrated) sends raw data over usb

I thought that but wanted to be sure, thanks!

NanoVNA-App allow select receive calibrated and not calibrated data

H/H4 devices by default send calibrated data (this mode for old software)
V2/Lite by default send not calibrated data

Not shure, but Saver receive data in default mode

works fine here

Thanks for the tip. I got a new display and now the screen capture works. The old display has the version 1.0 and the new display has the version 1.1.

Dear Roger,
The situation is:
None on com ports menu and no any list.
The next menu:
"Disconnected"
Looks like no com ports or Windows 10 can't see the program.
Best regards,
Stefan Dimitrov

You need to use Device manager to see if a COM port is active for your NanoVNA. If it isn't there you need to get it installed somehow. The method depends on which OS you are using.

Once you can select the correct COM port click the Disconnected button and you should be good to go...

Try reading the Absolute Beginners Guide in the files section of this group.

Thank you very much, Roger.
Best regards and have a nice day, Stefan

NanoVNA-App is, for me, the best PC program I have found for my NanoVNA V2 (SAA2).
I can view 3 plots or more at once. Most formats available in professional software are also available in NanoVNA-App. Scan rate is quick.
If it has anything lacking, it is the ability to define cal kit standards, which would be nice, especially, databased (Touchstone) standards.

I use Linux only, so I wanted to post a note of how to install it. The program works fine in WINE. No need to install drivers, the Linux kernel already has them. Notes:

Linux Mint 20.2 (Ubuntu 20.04 Focal) and PlayOnLinux V4.3.4-1 (POL)

Created a standard 32bit virtual drive in PlayOnLinux named: NanoVNA-App

Use wine version 6.18 or system (5.0-3) in POL wine config, either works fine.

Doesn't need Mono or Gecko. If offered to install, just cancel the warnings.

Must install dependency: gdiplus (Microsoft GDI+ Graphics Device Interface)

Windows version Windows 10 set in Wine Config

Run install executable: NanoVNA-App-Setup-v1.1.209-OD17.exe
(PlayOnLinux, install, install a non listed program, search and open NanoVNA-App-Setup-v1.1.209-OD17)

Set the com1 port, The NanoVNA V2 will map to ttyACM0 when plugged into Linux:

Use the wine registry editor in PlayOnLinux for the NanoVNA-App virtual drive:

Under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wine\Ports

Create a new string value. Name it: com1 and set value to: /dev/ttyACM0

Can run NanoVNA-App from PlayOnLinux window or tell it to "Create a Shortcut" and it will place an icon on the deskop.

Many thanks ddemos1963 for sharing your success in making NanoVNA App works with Wine in Linux.

I also use only Linux.
In Wine I ran NanoVNA-App-Setup-V1.1.209-0D18.exe and the installation went flawlessly. With your explanations (32 bits, windows 10, registry edition) I now have NanoVNA App fully working.
In my case I did not have to install gdiplus.

Here is my configuration :
Archlinux up to date
Wine 10.1
NanoVNA-H : hardware 3.4, firmware 1.2.40 ; mapped to /dev/ttyACM0

This is a great application easy to use. Congratulations to the developers.
