NanoVNA App - Installation and Use
#applications
A very useful PC application for the NanoVNA was developed by One Of Eleven as an alternative to NanoVNA Saver and other earlier programs. It was originally done for personal use but was kindly offered to the community. After development was stopped by the author the source code was released so that improvements could be done by others.
The program is easy to use and has many nice features... - Multiple graphing options and flexible scaling options. - Calibration works reliably and includes averaging and smoothing options - Built in firmware uploading tool that is easy to use - Continuous run mode which is useful for tuning filters and antennas - Four memories that can be used to compare results in the graphs - Export and Import of Touchstone files (s1p and s2p) - Multiple marker capability with various display options. DiSlord and Owen Duffy have made several recent improvements and bug fixes. The updated program can be downloaded here >> The program is mouse driven and by right clicking on any graph you can change the tiling options (# of graphs on screen) and the type of graph (SWR, RL, Reactance, Smith etc.). Please post any questions about how to use the program in this topic. Roger |
Thanks, Roger!

If you use the latest publicly available version of the DiSlord NanoVNA-D v1.1.00 firmware and calibrate in the NanoVNA-App-v1.1.209-OD10 it will use "raw data" from the NanoVNA. That means that calibration is independent of any calibration done on the NanoVNA itself. This is a nice step up in calibration from that done in NanoVNA Saver.
Owen Duffy describes it in further detail in a blog post >> |

NanoVNA app is not seeing your COM10 from the NanoVNA. I think you reported this with Putty as well. I suspect Saver will have the same issue. I believe you are using WIN 7. The problem could be that you do not have the correct driver installed for Windows 7. Windows 10 has the correct driver for the NanoVNA ready to go (or update will install it). With WIN 7/8/8.1 you have to manually install it. After you do Device Manager will look like the attached screenshot. Note the description of the driver... Look in this groups Wiki for WIN 7 driver details. Roger |

Roger,
Appreciate your assistance. Well, it seems that my COM10 port./driver has disappeared and only COM1, COM2, and LPT1 were left behind. I followed your link to the Box validation, obtained an ID and proceeded to download the driver package. I attempted to install the drivers per the two wizards and yet the Drivers remain the same. PuTTY does not produce the previous error but instead displays a session that does not respond. Wonder what I am doing wrong? I attached some screen scrapes essentially tracking what I did. -- William, k6whp -------------------- "Cheer up, things could get worse. So I cheered up and things got worse." ![]()

If you have problems... --------------- 1. There are not two wizards for the drivers. There are four drivers in the zip file - two for Win 8 and two for WIn7. You have to pick one of the four and only run that install. For Win 7 pick the one that matches your system - 32 bits or 64 bits. 2. COM1 and COM2 are usually Windows defaults and you will see those with nothing plugged in. You won't see the one for the NanoVNA until you plug it in. You should hear a bing sound in Windows when you plug it in. After you plug in your NanoVNA and turn it on you should see an new Com port with the name STMicroelectonics Virtual COM Port. See attached screenshot. 3. After you install the driver plug it in and post a screenshot of Device Manager here.... 4. There is no need to use Putty if you get NanoVNA app working. NanoVNA app has a built in Comms port so you can send console commands to the NanoVNA in a popup window. Attached is a screenshot showing which button to use and where to type commands. If you enter "help" it will return a list of commands. If you do nothing it will show you the traffic between the NanoVNA and the app (try running a sweep to see) Roger Roger |
Roger,
Thank you for your assistance and advice. I was able to actually communicate with the NanoVNA and pass along commands. It is quite an incredible tool! My soncere gratitude for the talent and engineering that went into that! I was even able to communicate with the NanoVNA using PuTTY and enter commands. As with the app, I was able to change the color of the grid lines ("color 2 0xFFFF", etc,) so i have the concept understood; just need to get the details. ..AND OF COURSE, like you tried to explain, the driver gets gets rolled out when the device is unplugged. Shoulda known! All that said, PuTTY and the former "SAVE" app is really not needed as this "Swiss Arm Knife" does it all. My thanks for your patience! This *is* gonna be fun! -- William, k6whp -------------------- "Cheer up, things could get worse. So I cheered up and things got worse." |

Hi
I tried to post a topic on the problem i am having but it hasnt been approved yet :( I am having problems (i can't calibrate) with OneOfEleven NanoVNA-App, I am using the nanoVNA V2 plus4 model maybe its not compatible with that model. here is what i have done so far: re-installed USB driver I tried 2 other computers, same problem ( Windows 8.1 and Windows 10) I tried another USB cable here are two videos so show what is going on: part 1 video: part 2 video: any help would be great! thanks |
V2Plus4 on original fw not supported by NanoVNA-App (as i remember, Owo not want fix several things in firmware for support)
Need fix several problems in exchange protocol on V2Plus4 side (or fix NanoVNA-App) My fw for V2Plus4 allow work vs NanoVNA-App, but not support last V2Plus4 hardware (different LCD module). I suggest use NanoVNA-QT, this software created for V2Plus4, and support by designer. |
