Nano VNA - Problems with data entry

Hi All,

I was getting fed up with using the jog wheel as a method of data entry, so I replaced it with three push buttons.

However I now realise that a lot of the problems I was experiencing were not actually associated with the jog wheel, but may actually be more underlying issues associated with the firmware and it not always detecting that a button had been pressed.

Sometimes when I try to select a menu item, or scroll up or down the list of options, nothing happens, and I have to press another button to scroll in the opposite direction or press 'enter' before the original button becomes active again.

Likewise when using the numeric pad on the touch screen for data entry, quite often the display freezes, or only partially displays, and I have to use a button press to regain control.

When I was still using the jog wheel I assumed that the problem was being caused by the jog wheel sticking, but now I've added the buttons it's much more obvious, as the buttons have a very positive confirmatory 'click' when pressed.

I think there may possibly be something wrong with the way in which the touch screen and jog wheel / button presses are scanned or de-bounced by the firmware and wondered if any other users had also observed similar problems ?

Martin - G8JNJ

Hi Martin,
I've already discussed this issue a month ago with a few other forum members.

It appears that the switches are scanned and the touchscreen is interrupt driven.
Although there is debounce in the F/W, the button presses are not always picked-up.
I had also installed buttons on my unit - see the Hacks & Mods folder in FILES for my writeup.
I guess we'll have to ask for voice control..... ;-)

Hi Larry,

OK I'm pleased it's not just me :-)

However it is quite bad at times.

I'm just surprised that other folks haven't griped more loudly about it, as for me it's a bigger usability issue than any concerns about sub dB measurement accuracy.

Martin,
I believe the reason more user's haven't gripped about the multi-function switch usability is because, they learned early on about the polling problem and find the touchscreen to be an acceptable work around. I mostly use the toggle switch for marker movement. Now if I could just stop misplacing my stylus ¡
