I downloaded v1.1 of the Calibration Procedure and all is well until
I get to Note 21.

When I connect the two ports together, my Blue Line is at the very
top of the chart and the readout fluctuates around 10 dB (+/- ~ 1 dB).

Their is a Blue tick mark down one division from the top (left side),
but the line is at the top.

What am I doing wrong ?

Hi Dick.

The readout fluctuates around 10 dB. That is a significant movement. I would make sure the cables are making a snug connection to the female adapter. Perhaps the cable on channel 1, CH1 is loose or defective.

I see information from other posts that there is a quality issue with the female adapter. Take a close look at the adapter and see if there are any obvious defects.

Does the procedure include a RESET command? I recall this as being required.

Where did you download the calibration procedure from? The downloaded manual I have reads like aChinese Fortune Cookie. It makes no sense and gives me a headache to try to figure it out.

There is no needs to download calibration procedure from somewhere. Just use CAL menu:

1) Open CAL menu and press RESET
2) Open CALIBRATE menu
3) Connect O item to CH0 wait 2-3 seconds and press OPEN
4) Connect S item to CH0 wait 2-3 seconds and press SHORT
5) Connect L item to CH0 wait 2-3 seconds and press LOAD
6) Connect L item to CH1, and connect second L item to CH0, wait 2-3 seconds and press ISOLN
note: if you don't have second L item, just leave CH0 open.
7) Connect cable from CH0 to CH1 and press THRU
8) Press DONE

That's it.
After that you can save calibration, or just start measurement with no save.

Don't try to press OPEN/SHORT/LOAD/ISOLN/THRU menu for second time, for some unknown reason it leads to the wrong calibration. So, if you failed at some step, just return to CAL menu, press RESET and start it again.

This open source project was originated in Japan, enhanced in China,
and is only popular due to the Chinese industrial base.
Many of the contributors to this group are not native speakers of English.

The files section of this group has a PDF that you might find easier
to work with.

I bought a second NanoVNA which just arrived. It had the 2 trace antenna analyzer firmware loaded. I wanted to upgrade to the recent 4 trace software so I:

1. Uploaded the "CLEAR_MEMORY_DFU" firmware.
2. Uploaded the "edy555 Release -0.2.3-oct-7-19" firmware.
3. Performed a RESET_OPEN/SHORT/LOAD/ISOLN/THRU_SAVE0 calibration.
4. Calibration did not take. OPEN/SHORT/LOAD centered in Smith chart. Thru is 10 dB below reference level.
5. Performed a RESET_OPEN/SHORT/LOAD/ISOLN/THRU_SAVE0 calibration again.
6. Calibration still did not take. OPEN/SHORT/LOAD centered in Smith chart. Thru is 10 dB below reference level.
7. Searched the group for advice, but didn't find anything similar.
8. I had never explored "CORRECTION" under the CAL menu, so decided to see what it did. Clicking on it highlighted the "CORRECTION" label and applied the OSLT correction factors to the data.
9. Performed a CAL_Save0.
10. Everything working.

Maybe when I uploaded the "CLEAR_MEMORY_DFU" firmware, the default state of correction being turned on was wiped and loading the new firmware did not restore it. In any event, hope this saves someone else some head scratching. I initially didn't perform a touchscreen calibration and the touchscreen was fine. After I was sure the unit was working, I went back and did a touchscreen calibration to be on the safe side.

I had what looked like the same calibration problem with OSL centered in Smith Chart. I discovered that for some reason, CH1 was selected. When I selected CH0, everything was OK.
