Free gift with NanoVNA

On 2 June I bought a NanoVNA on EBay.
On 19 June I receive a small parcel with a blue tassel in it.
The tracking number on the parcel was the same as listed for the NanoVNA.
Now EBay thinks that the VNA has been delivered.
I contacted the seller and he stated the the VNA was to be shipped when it arrived to him from the manufacture and that he was tracking it.
The seller is topcyberday and has a 98.9% positive feedback with 1840 transactions.
My concern is that EBay will think that the VNA has been delivered and that I will have no recourse if I do not receive the VNA.

Anyone with experience with this seller?

Thanks

Glenn

In any case, don't worry. Just make sure you include pictures of the package that came (showing all details)
and the content of it if or when you need to file a claim. In my experience eBay is more on your (buyer) side than the seller
I have had this same issue a number of times...the last time was with a GPIB-USB adapter where the seller
sent me a spark plug instead with the tracking number and everything...of course I got my money back very quickly from ebay

I had the same from panda201898 but it turned up a couple of days later ... very disconcerting though

Same experience here, eBay seller xspar. The letter in the "free gift" package had the real tracking number. The unit arrived 10 days later.
I think it is some trick to game eBay, maybe to show them faster delivery times to improve their rating or something.

I was hoping for a Panda, but all I got was a properly working VNA. Everything was there but instructions. Thanks to this group I knew what to expect.

I have had that several times with other items from China, perhaps you are right.

I had a similar situation with my eBay vendor and here's my take on what's going on. This is a Catch-22 situation for the eBay vendor. eBay tells their vendors the they must ship using the eBay preferred carrier. That is a company called Speed-PAC. The problem is that Speed-PAC will not accept any merchandise that contains an integrated battery. What's the vendor to do? Some simply remove the battery and ship via Speed-PAC leaving the end user to solve the problem for themselves. Other vendors ship a "free gift" using Speed-PAC and include a note of explanation. This satisfies their requirements with eBay, but leaves us wondering what's going on. They then ship the real merchandise, with battery, using a different carrier. It's a clever solution but it's annoying for the end user to be sure. In my case it took a little over two weeks for the "free gift" to arrive and then a little less than two more weeks for the VNA to show up. Yes, the outer cardboard box was crushed but the contents were fine and as expected.

I offer this for whatever you might think it's worth,

Larry
