Reset calibration, if you not see noise, then problem in LOAD from calibration set, or in bad connection on CH0, check it.

That is exactly what happens if one shorts the boot contacts next to
the battery connector when switching on.

Therefore, check that the boot contacts are not shorted.

Getting NanoVNA-Saver to run on my Mac #nanovna-saver

I am not the best at using terminal, but, to the best of my knowledge, I've done all that I am supposed to do to get to the NanoVNA-Saver executable and I STILL cannot get a .dmg file. Anybody have a step-by-step for Dummies? I have a MacBook Pro and my OS version is 11.0.1.

Having retired after 40 years in the telecom industry I can attest to this.

We used to design and build our own systems. Now all applications reside on third party cloud computing platforms.

Another change is because of rapidly changing technology there is little documentation; the documentation available is out of date. They new engineer hires however knew to find information. learning the theory and figuring out how it use the NanoVNA would be second nature for them.

My last job was with a large R&D lab. Most of the EE's who learned and played with electronics were foreign born. The only engineer on my team who built crystal sets or played with a 555 timer was from India.

Got to get back to the rocking chair...

The Cal 0 location is loaded when you restart, so to save a particular Trace setup, just do CAL/SAVE 0 if you want to automatically start with that setup. It will be saved with whatever calibration is in effect at that point.

OK, viewed the videos and now have the firmware updated to Hyugun's last, Feb 2020. Things working as expected, however:

1. My NanoH4 saves the scan start and stop frequencies OK, so when I turn the unit off and on again they are still there. But it doesn't save the Trace selections. I have to delete unwanted traces and format the desired ones anew each time. Is that normal?

Hello,

Tell me if you have checked the SOL terminations on another VNA? Also, I found that I needed a warm and fuzzy check when using the VNA so built up a couple reactive terminations. That is, a PCB mount male connector with a series chip 50 ohm 1% resistor and a series chip capacitor. The cap value is selected to be -j50 at some frequency of choice. I made two. One with the design frequency of 1 MHz and used a value of C of 3185 pF. and one at 10 MHz with a selected value of 318.5 pF.

Notice the C is proportional to the frequency. After calibration and when I want to use the device I put on the reactive load to confirm it reads the right 50-j50 on the design frequency. I know then that the calibration is linear across the bands of interest, Yes, you can build one for any frequency, you want just use 1% components or select them carefully. Works for me. Warm and fuzzy.

Yes, the NANOVNA offerings are nothing short of a game changer and a
wonderful educational tool. Once the (good) universities get word of them,
they should be buying them by the hundreds for their RF and microwave
courses (CU Boulder and School of Mines in Golden in my state, Colorado and
possibly New Mexico State in Las Cruces). I know for a fact, CU in Boulder
offers a very popular hands-on RF design course, including soldering pens,
spectrum analyzers, and VNA's.

Hi Larry,
Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried a few things including the screen "RESET" button and also tried the "clearconfig" command also.
I have also tried "blanking" the device with the "memory clear" firmware and then loading the firmware again.

I not recommend use as start point 50k and end big frequency like 900M
Better set 1M to 900M
If need measure on < 1M select only this range.
Interpolation for low values < 1M allow measure it on this calibration data.
