Having retired after 40 years in the telecom industry I can attest to this.
We used to design and build our own systems. Now all applications reside on third party cloud computing platforms.
Another change is because of rapidly changing technology there is little documentation; the documentation available is out of date. They new engineer hires however knew to find information. learning the theory and figuring out how it use the NanoVNA would be second nature for them.
My last job was with a large R&D lab. Most of the EE's who learned and played with electronics were foreign born. The only engineer on my team who built crystal sets or played with a 555 timer was from India.
Got to get back to the rocking chair...
