It is nearly the perfect size, once you take a Dremel tool to it to remove some of the excess mounting slots and standoffs. Removed the front plate and mounted directly into the top of the case, in which I made a cutout for the display, using the NanoVNA frontplate as a template, and using the original screws (had to countersink the holes a bit to accommodate the screw heads to be flush to the surface; the enclosure was a bit thicker than the PCB frontplate). I cut up the original front plate to retain the labeling and attached the 2 label sections to the top of the enclosure. Cut slots in the sides to make holes for the USB-C, and Power and Control switches (countersink the area around the Power switch for better access). The case has a separate panel for the coax connectors to go through, it was a simple task to measure and drill these holes.

The 1000mAh battery mounted to the back of the original NanoVNA backplate using some double-stick tape. Drilled a couple holes in the original backplate to accommodate the mounting screws for the enclosure bottom (had to find some shorter screws from an old used enclosure. The screws that came with the enclosure could be used if you are skilled at cutting down screws ( I cut mine too short). The standoffs for the enclosure bottom mounting screws should be trimmed to be slightly above the surface of the NanoVNA backplate for a more secure fit of the enclosure bottom.

Overall, I was amazed at how well the it fit. Even the divide between the enclosure halves were perfectly positioned to avoid the extra work of having to mill holes for the connector and switches. If anyone would like pictures and more detailed instructions. Let me know and I will be happy to ablige.

If anyone wants good project boxes, MPJA has a nice assortment at reasonable prices.

Re: Trouble buying from China

it's not just China. I ordered something in April from an individual in Brisbane, Australia. He gave it to their Postal Service for express air, and it sat "awaiting departure" for a solid month.

Re: Trouble buying from China

If the item shipped via Hong Kong, which a lot do, highly likely the hold up is there. One of the postal options seems to be it has no priority and will get put on a plane if there's space. Often this type gets forgotten and lies around in a depot until someone queries it. Chase the supplier up, they can find out what's happening and expedite.

Re: NanoVNA firmvare, compiled by DiSlord #firmware

Next H4 update:
Cleanup ADC code (used for touch screen and battery measure).

Reduce touch press check from 1kHz to 20Hz and set touch press ADC time to 1 tick (it allow little more reduce measure noise), for vbat, touch X and Y measure use bigger ADC time.

Add Brightness setting to config menu.
Now for set Brightness need select Config->Brightness and use leveler button Left or Right for adjust it. On done press leveler button Down for set. For save value need use Config->Save.

Fix calibration reset error added in last patch, now this should work correct
Possible made calibration and not reset old calibration data, just disable correction (not made reset) and made another calibration.
Open - Short calibration depend from self, need recalibrate it together.
Load calibration possible made alone
Isoln, Thru also depend from self, need recalibrate it together.
Add some measure screenshots

R&L. Still $59.95 for the H4 but out of stock,

The H is in stock for $49.95

If you want the H4 you might want to check and see when they will have more.

There are several great case designs for the smaller NanoVNA for 3D printers on Thingiverse. I printed one and it fits like a glove. There are several designs for building cases that protect the fragile SMA connectors as well as designs to hold the calibration devices.

Re: Nanovna vs Antenna Analyzer

Mark,

If you are just measuring SWR on HF antennas you can do the calibration from 1 to 30 MHz. on the CH0 SMA connector and store it in one of the memory slots 1-4. Then just recall it after powering up. You then use Stimulus to zoom in on the band of interest (40m, 20M etc.) and the NanoVNA interpolation routine will take care of it. Attached is a file showing what happens with different calibration settings when measuring SWR. Note: I am referring to SWR measurements ONLY here.

Now I just have to figure out what to do with it.

This HW change is optional.
A newer FW will work even without the change

Re: Trouble buying from China

Greetings,

I am waiting for several items sent via ~pre-COVID normal~, 2-3 week typical delivery time to Canada, ~ePacket~ and ~AliExpress Standard~ express alternatives. These items have been on order for about 2 months and still have not shown up. Surprisingly some small items I ordered around the same time that were sent via economy shipping are trickling in. According to tracking services several of my express shipment items seem to be stuck in China. Possibly economy shipped items are still arriving via container ships in a somewhat ~pre-COVID normal~ fashion. Possibly in contrast many air shipments are currently stalled due to lack of air cargo space for my relatively low priority mail.

I wonder if there are current day statistics regarding shipment methods from China posted somewhere on the Internet that would shed some light on this situation?

Re: Is Gen11.TAOBAO nanoVNA upgradeable to 1.5GHz

The wiki states:

All original nanoVNA and nanoVNA-H with 2.8" display can run the latest firmware. (NOT F, H4 and V2)
Using DfuSeDemo you can backup your current FW (using the "Upload" action )
and then update to a newer FW (using the Upgrade action) so you can go back if something goes wrong.

Wayne Rash

I had the same experience, also from Amazon. It's probably more expensive than some other options, but I couldn't put my antenna project on hold for a month with Field Day coming up. The unit the shipped included a nice case and quality accessories. The USB-C cable was defective, but I had on one hand, so that wasn't a critical issue. You'll need a coax adapter for anything but an HT antenna, but those are widely available.

It works perfectly and it's easy to use.

Re: Trouble buying from China

For Bill,

Have you been following the shipping issues??? I heard about it and am experiencing it. I ordered a NanoVNA-F on Mar 9th. It was a pre-order. It was shipped via Economy. Shipping started on the 14th. Mine was shipped on the 17th and arrived in Singapore on the 21st. It is still in Singapore I guess. That is almost 6 weeks. I have ordered from china before via the same method and received the items in less than 2 weeks. For more info go to the nanovna-f group on groups.io. Read Junes posts.

Re: Are any of the NanoVNA sold on Amazon any better or worse than any others? Is there a better U.S. site to order from?

I purchased mine from AURSINC Vector Network Analyzer a year ago. Either I got lucky, or they are a legit outlet. I subsequently "discovered" these lists, and, based on material here, I then ordered a "legit" -H and -F (different sources). Excellent service from June et al. I disassembled both -H and compared...ISTR that I posted images here. I could not see a significant difference twixt the two, and there is no reason why I could not have bought a legit item from a dealer who was reselling legit items. Dunno. Happy w products.

It seems that the routine failure rate for just about everything these days is at least 5% right out of the box|door, and other failures (fittings, knobs, etc.) add a few more percent. It's funny in a way, because I used to look forward to the time when manufacturing had progressed to the point where nearly everything would be nearly flawless (which I know, from running my own company, is possible), but instead it seems that we have sort of regressed. It may be a side effect of "consumer-oriented" economics, rather than "environment- and quality of life-driven" economics. It seems that many buyers now are content to buy something cheaply made, and toss it, neglectful of the environmental impact. Growing up in Maine, and watching the slow, steady decline of the environment there made me very aware that my grandchildren would not see the same world that I was raised in.

LT: I was raised in northern Maine, moved south many years ago, and settled on the banks of the Piscataqua in Eliot. I did a research project on local history while I was there, and decided that I wanted to keep the name active, so I adopted the tag line. Now I live in NH, and can't see the Piscataqua from here :-), but still will always keep the line. Nice to meet you!
