Unfortunately, I have not tried to use zplot at this time but since Softmaker claims it is compatible, it may work.

The T-Check confusion

Hi All
There has been several contribution on how to create a T-Check for the NanoVNA and I have made a document about why these T-Check are not so promising.
It is in fact not possible due to the lag of adequate error correct models as NanoVNA allows only error correction (at the best as the exact models are unknown) for one direction and not bidirectional.
Have a look and see the experiment I have made to enlighten the interested reader ?

Kind regards

Kurt

Iffy nanovna-saver installation -- PauL

Paul,

Your description of the problem is vague at best. However, if you're saying that the display on the screen is the problem, it might not be an nanovna-saver problem
If I'm correct in thinking that the display is generated from the VC++ application mentioned in previous messages, then maybe install/re-install that App?

Re: New version of NanoVNA-Saver: 0.2.1

Ok.??
A quick search mentions Google sheets and IBM Lotus Symphony and a few others as alternatives.??
Maybe someone with experience using zplot can test it on the various free Excel alternatives and give the results here?? That would help other forum members.?

Definitely use N, not BNC. Mainly because BNC provides a less repeatable
connection, and for a VNA, you should be seeking the most repeatable
connection possible.

nanoVNAPartner v0.17

Hi,

nanoVNAPartner v0.17

What's new:
-S11 and 21 interchanged labels are fixed;
-S11 and S21 Min and Max points on Phase and Group Delay are added;
-Error on TDR when the main chart is cleared also fixed;
-Added auto line electrical length calculator using stimulus center frequency or lowest VSWR frequency.

If interested, may download it from here:

Kind regards,

neb

Re: New version of NanoVNA-Saver: 0.2.1

Hi Rudi
The ZPlots has facilities as mentioned before to calculate Z0 as function of Frequency base on measurement of an open and shorted cable. Here is the result for the 33cm cable we are discussing. As you see there is interesting "bumps" along the frequency axe due to switching to harmonic modes for the NanoVNA
Kind regards

phase oscillation was minimized. The return loss oscillation is not
changed by changing the Z0 but rather due to port mismatch.
Hello Kurt,

Thank you very much for your quick answer.

I have 3 questions:
1. Where did you subtract the length (20 cm) ?

2. Did you mean that the S11 phase oscillation curve (about sinus) horizontal center line
should be minimised to a straight line and not be bowed?

3. Did you mean with the change of Z0 to connect a resistor of 50 Ohm
at the end of the 22 cm coax cable? And then vary this resistor in 0.1 Ohm steps
to minimise the amplitude of the phase oscillation amplitude?

I mean your file "NanoVNA supplied cable 50K to 500MHz.png" in post 7877 at 2019-12-05 20:10.

In this screen shot there are 2 diagrams with S11 Phase.
When I try to get a similar diagram with a 30 cm RG174 coax cable with open end I get see attached screen shot nanoVNA-saver_RG174-30cm-open-end.png

Re: connector swap

Hi Paul,

if N is an alternative for you: N provides much better accurate quality for higher frequencies than BNC.

See pics:

The (slightly hot air bent) extended PE board permits hand isolation: Often a suitable balun for avoiding body ground errors is not needed.

hi all im thinking of changing from sma to bnc connectors on my vna, maybe mounted on an extender board hooked up to the vna with some small coax,is there any issues with doing this as regards acuracy etc,i assume using 50 ohm coax and re calibrating it should be ok?,any idea?.,cheers M3vuv.

Re: Linux saver problems

What Linux distribution are you using?

As Nick said, if you follow the installation instructions, the program installs without a problem on Linux Mint 19.2 and works just fine.

Just received my new NanoVNA and beginning to learn how to use it.? I
have read the "user guide" but it is not much help with my problems:

After I set the menu settings for display, frequency, etc., and start
trying to use it, I am having trouble moving the markers to where I want
them on the trace.

As I go to touch a marker to move it where I want it, the menu comes up
automatically on the right and the marker doesn't move. I close the menu
and try again with the same result.? Repeated attempts will eventually
allow me to move the marker, but it is still problematic.
If you want to move a marker, put your finger or stylus on the trace, and without lifting it, drag left or right. The important bit being "without lifting it". If you lift your finger or stylus, you make a tap instead and that brings up the menu.

What am I doing wrong or missing?

Also, is there a setting where I can tell it to boot back up to my last
screen settings, instead of the factory default out to 900 MHz?? This
would allow saving the battery when I have to be make extended changes
to an antenna and not have to reprogram everything again.
If you save your current calibration and range selection to slot 0, it will be loaded when you power on. If you don't want to save to slot 0, save it to another slot and load from that slot via the menu after powering up. The slots save more than just the calibration settings.

Additionally: Is there software for use with a Win 7 or Win 10 PC and
for Android?
See the files section of the group.

Your assistance would be appreciated.

Re: USB cable

1. Is there a newer version of the VNA Saver software?
3. I am not sure of my NanoVNA firmware but I think it is QRP 0.4.3. Is
there newer firmware?
To check for newer offerings,
I go to /g/nanovna-users/wiki
.. then search for
software
.. then
firmware
