Re: Your NanoVNA version

Ok. Good advice. I will prepare myself to do the upgrade but will do some benchmarking first to make sure that 1) I can use the functions that I need and 2) that the device works reliably.

Re: Your NanoVNA version

I would recommend using it as-is for awhile without upgrading the firmware,
just to avoid another unknown until you are familiar with the device.
The 1.1 firmware is solid and works fine for all of the features it has.
The current 1.2..20 release firmware has new features (additional display
formats, more SD card functionality, etc.), but the major vna functions for
testing antennas and cables are the same in both versions.

Re: NanoVNA Saver Error Message

Try putting a couple of ferrite beads on your USB cable between the nanovna
and computer. You're likely getting some RF coupling onto this line,
causing some errors.

I am getting an "ERROR during sweep" message when using NanoVNA Saver
version 0.3.9.

The message states "failed reading data 1 10 times, Data outside expected
valid ranges, or in an unexpected format. You can disable validation on
the device settings screen".

I am using the NanoVNa to evaluate an RF amplifier sweeping the 1 MHz to
30 MHz range. The amplifier has 25 dB of gain so I am using a 30 dB
attenuator between the output of the amplifier and the input to CH 1. When
I run a sweep with the amplifier powered down the results get displayed
with no errors, but when I power the amplifier up and run a sweep I get the
error.

Any ideas?

Yes, just save it into a separate folder or file if you are using the
prepackaged version.

Create a new empty directory, and git clone nanovna-server there.

I do not want to remove version which does work for my purposes.
You will still have the old version in the other directory.

Here are the instructions - directly from "git "

'The program simply works from the source directory without having to install it.

Simple step-by-step instruction, open a terminal window and type:

sudo apt install git python3-pyqt5 python3-numpy python3-scipy
git clone
cd nanovna-saver

Since there exists "older release of nanovna-saver - git clone refuses to work.

nov25-1@nov251-desktop:~$ git clone
fatal: destination path 'nanovna-saver' already exists and is not an empty directory.

I do not want to remove version which does work for my purposes.

How do I "install" newer version , what has to be changed in the above sequence ?

How do I instruct git clone to clone nanovna-saver (source) to " nanovna-saver_new_Vetsion " ?

Re: Your NanoVNA version

Read the tutorial in the files section, fairly easy to do it and
no need to worry about bricking the device, practically impossible to do
that.
Make sure that you select the H and not H4 version.

Hi Clint. Thanks for the feedback. Yea I'll be happy but I'll be even more happy if my antenna turns out to work.

The soldering on the SMA connecteros looks a bit rough but that'#s about
it, the rest looks good, they've gone to the trouble of a plug n socket for
the battery, the shields look well made and fitted, I'd be happy enough
with the construction quality it if I'd bought it, if I'd got it for free
then I'd be really happy.

Definitely worth spending some time to test but I have a feeling it'll be
OK.

If you've a 3d printer or a friend with one then there's a few models for
enclosures on Thingiverse.
