If they make an insertion/extraction tool it is because it is needed to avoid damaging the delicate connectors on the cable or, worse, tearing loose the mating connector on the board.
My father, a tool-and-die maker, told me that if you need a tool for your work and do not buy it, you will pay for it and still not have it.
