Gene,
I find the screen dump to the SD Card is about 300K, S1P and S2P files
are between 20-30K, so using the higher number for screen shots, about
50K files can be stored on a 16GB SD Card.
I did the numbers quick so I might be off, but I'm sure someone could
correct the number, but in normal service, I think 16GB should be more
than adequate for most people.
I do, however, agree that if they don't make the lower capacity cards
in favor of the bigger ones it could be a problem in the future, but
not for quite awhile, still a lot of electronics out there that don't
run well, if at all. on the higher capacity cards.

How many thousands or tens of thousands of images can be stored on a
16 GB card? Is there really a need for more?

[1] sort of implies that it's
not so
much that the bigger microSD don't have SPI, it's that the way you
use
it is different.

So a firmware fix is possible, maybe.
