You don't have an H, you have an H4. In dfu mode, it has a dark screen. Also, you can get into dfu mode by turning the unit off, holding the jog switch in and turning the unit on. Then, release the jog switch.?
Make sure you only use firmware for the H4 and not the H or F devices.?

Next is to update the firmware. I'm trying to follow the "How to Update software on your NanoVNA using Windows for the complete idiot".? Seems I am a level or two below "complete idiot", because when I get to the part about jumpering P1 pins together and rebooting to a white screen, I get a black screen -- in other words, looks like it doesn't power on. Pulling off the jumper (paper clip) I get back to the version screen and what seems like normal operation (so far). I also noticed the USB port is not on the same side as the power switch - not sure if that indicates anything.
Any ideas what the problem could be? I am also not 100% sure of my USB cable -- it works to charge the NanoVNA battery, but not sure if it supports data. When I plug it into the Nano and the PC, the PC doesn't recognize any new device.
