Irrespective of what connectors you have, it will be weak if only supported
only by the PCB.
BNCs are not very stable. There are no professional BNC calibration kits on
the used market. In my opinion, BNC would be a complete disaster
2) Fabricate your own (female) short to use with (male) pigtails.
You can buy female shorts from Cross RF. I found them totally unsuitable
for my companies 7 or 12 GHz SMA calibration kits, but they might be okay
for 900 MHz.
3) Keep (male) 50 Ohm SMA connected to female-female barrel for use
with (male) pigtails.
To be honest, female SMA connectors are not a bad choice on a PCB, but
people need to realise they should only be used to connect to to something
better.
