Hello OneOfEleven, we are evaluating whether our supplier can provide SMA connectors comparable to Amphenol. If possible, we will use better connectors in next-generation products.

As far as I know the SMA connector is better up into the several GHZ range

But yes the N-Type is GHz good.
For what it's worth, SMA connectors are as good as N for the most part, until you get into fancy N or 3.5mm connectors. Are you "gauging" your connectors before measuring? Using a torque wrench? Cleaning the connectors?
I suspect the vast majority of users aren't doing any of these things.

The uncertainty in mate/demate with SMA is about the same as for N. Way back, someone (at Maury?) put together a rig to mate/demate SMAs thousands of times.
I can't find it right now, but there's also this:

R. L. Jesch, "Repeatability of SMA coaxial connectors," in IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, vol. IM-25, no. 4, pp. 314-320, Dec. 1976, doi: 10.1109/TIM.1976.6312234.
