DMR Simplex

Working on my DMR code plug for Jamboree.? Looking at:

No DMR talk group was listed.? The regular talk group for DMR simplex is 99.? I'm just getting started in DMR so I'm not sure, but it seems like it is required when I set up a channel.?

Thanks & 73 de Joseph M. Durnal NE3R

Thx Joe. I¡¯ll be interested in the code plug when you get it finished,

Welcome!

Just wanted to send out a welcome since we had a large influx of users.? The group is moderated a bit for now to keep the traffic to relevant content for the World Scout Jamboree.? I'm personally excited for July to arrive so we can start this journey that we've been chatting about and working on since the National Jamboree in 2017.? Band conditions haven't changed much since then, so it's all the more important to keep multiple methods for informing those interested amateurs not only on where to find us, but that can be available for those crucial contacts for the scouts to have an enjoyable and enriching experience at the demonstration station.

We hear the comments all the time about getting youth involved in Amateur Radio, and with scouting we have a captured audience that tends to want to learn about these kinds of STEAM/STEM related activities throughout their stages of advancement in the various programs.? Let's work together to make the hobby shine as we're on the stage for this major event where up to 40,000 scouts could be present!? If you're interested in more opportunities for radio scouting, please join us monthly the second Thursday of the month at 9pm Central on Echolink on *JOTA-365*, or checkout all the resources on the ?web page.

Re: Welcome!

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Bill.? Thanks for the email.

I am an NCS for the Maritime Mobile Service Net which operates 1200 EDT until 2200 EDT on 14.300.0.? The other day was calling for check-in and had a station from Morocco who was 5-9+ ehck in.? I am in Southeaster AZ!

So one can never predict what the bands are actually capable of doing.

?

Looking forward to the adventure.? I attended the WSJ in 1955 in Ontario, Canada!

Re: Hello and Welcome!

Good day to all, my name is Sigfrido Rodas, my indicative TG9SRP, I greet you from Guatemala, in Central America.

I am enlisting to be able to support in what was necessary, today I get in touch with the national scout office to coordinate efforts in the participation of Guatemala in the 2019 World Scout Jamboree.

Initially I think we can participate in HF with a station located in the national scout office, be connected via EchoLink and possibly via DMR.

As soon as we have some additional details about our support and participation in this event we will let you know. We are very excited to be able to collaborate so that the scouts know more about our hobbie.

HT Charging during WSJ at Summit Bechtel Reserve

Hi,

This will be my first trip to the Summit and my first Jamboree. Are there facilities for recharging HT's? Thanks for any information you can provide.

Re: HT Charging during WSJ at Summit Bechtel Reserve

There are limited outlets in the camps, but you can find them.? Hopefully you have a rapid charger.? ? Saw a lot of battery packs being used since you don't mind leaving those charging in random places.

Re: HT Charging during WSJ at Summit Bechtel Reserve

Solar chargers if you have them.? There's one outlet in the showerhouses but it's discouraged to plug in there.? If you are on? IST, you may or may not have an outlet at your worksite.? If you are an adult leader, make friends with your commissioner supporting your unit - they might make things happen.

I have created a charging station for us to use at Philmont so that Scouts can charge their devices and then we can shown them and talk on our Ham radios to NA1WJ.

LOOKING FOR TEST QSO FROM WEST VIRGINIA

Hello HF guys,
The Scottish Scout HQ station still does not have a special call allocated yet. However, we are building a new phased array fixed antenna for 7 MHz and would appreciate a sked to test the path with someone in the vicinity of Bechtel Summit before the WSJ starts.
The antenna should be ready in mid June. We have gear ready for ssb/cw but not yet for FT8. Guessing that the best time of day for this band to be open might be around midnight UTC.
Anyone interested? please contact me via this group ( na1wj groups.io ) in the first instance and we shall take from there.
73
Malcolm GM3TAL
(p.s. we plan also to be on 20/15/17/10m bands during WSJ with a 3 ele yagi and we may also be on 80m - which has been nicely opening to USA/Canada recently after dark)

Great Coverage in QST Magzine

Jim Wilson

NA1WJ received excellent coverage in ARRL's QST magazine with articles in both the June and July issues.?

At Hamvention the K2BSA Booth and the Icom America booth handed out information about working NA1WJ.?

Hopefully, we'll get a good turn out during the Jamboree for stations on the other side of the QSO for our Scouts.

73, Jim, K5ND

Re: LOOKING FOR TEST QSO FROM WEST VIRGINIA

I'm currently a Tech but 10 and 6 seem to be opening up lately in WNY.? I've had pretty good success on 10 day-side recently.? If you'd like to test out those I might be able to help.

Got you covered.? As the big day approaches, the Amateur Radio Caravan Club in Albuquerque, NM (), will be alerted to listen for young people at the World Jamboree.

Thanks and 73,
