The local ARES RACES group will be active at WA9KLM again this year.
It will be operated from the Douglas County EOC.

We will be trying many modes including RTTY.
The WA9KLM will also be available via WINLINK if anyone wants to try that.

Hello Everyone!
Thank you Nick, for the warm welcome.

I now have a 50 watt mobile 2m radio setup with a J-pole setting in a spare bedroom.

Less than ideal, but I can now reach some of the area repeaters. Last week I was able to check in on the weekly nets with the Rush City, Duxbury, and Siren repeaters. Finally able to join in on the fun.
This will do until warmer weather, when I can properly mount the antenna outside.

2020 SIMCOM

Good Morning!

There is an annual event held in Wisconsin every year called SIMCOM. SIMCOM is an annual test of communications interoperability involving military, federal, state, and local responders and supporting non-government organizations.?

This year, Washburn County has been selected as a remote SIMCOM site. The event will be held on May 7th 2020 in the Spooner area.

Washburn County Emergency Management is requesting qualified RACES (ICS certifications required) operators for this event. We are looking for a minimum of three ham operators for the exercise. One person will be at Shell Lake Hospital, another at Spooner Hospital, and a third at the incident command post. Other operators can either assist the three or be deployed in other areas.

SIMCOM tests communication capabilities including emergency deployments to areas without power. This would be a great test for people to deploy their home kits to support operations.

Right now, I'd like people to consider this event and mark it down on their calendars as more info with be coming. Interested, qualified, operators should email me so I can add you to the tentative?list.

Thank you.

Tucker McCumber
