Quality of reception

Hello all,
?
I must be doing something wrong. Between Thetis and Quisk, the reception and quality of filters are several orders of magnitute greater on Thetis. So much so, that I can't imagin anyone using Quisk over Thetis. However people do use Quisk, so I must be doing something wrong.?
?
A station that I can hear clearly and without any noise on Thetis, will have very poor signal to noise ratio on quisk. Also, if I try using NR2 (why is there no NR1?), the signal will be distorted beyond understanding and turning NR2 off again will do nothing, so I have to restart Quisk to remove the distortion from NR2.
If I click NB and choose 1, 2 or 3, nothing happens at all. It is as if the button doesn't work. If, however, I choose SNB, I get the same kind of distortion I get from NR2 and I will have to restart Quist to remove it.
?
I like Quisks interface and would like to use it instead of Thetis, so I would appriciate any help in resolving this
?
Hardware:
Hermes Lite 2 with n2adr and IO board
Lenovo P50 laptop
?
Software:
Windows 10 and Quisk version 4.2.38
?
Thanks
Peter

I have the same for the NR2 and SNB. It is necessary to reboot Quisk, because distortions remain after the functions are turned off.

I have noticed the same issue with our transceivers (Multus SDR, LLC.).

Hi?
Using Hermes + Quisk under Linux + laptop or Raspberry Pi.? Do not have any of your issues.? NR3 minor distortion but no more than you might expect given that it must be effectively cutting fastest changes in signal, nothing destroying readability.? Problem with Windows ? or computer audio - I use pulse/alsa?

Yes, Windows10.

Hello,
?
I just tried it on the most resent version of Fedora 40. I installed Quisk version 4.2.38 from the repository. I configured a new Hermes radio. Now I cannot click the NR2 button (button is there but is disabled)? or choose SNB (the option is there on the list, but cannt be chosen). Also I cannot set up the band filters. Nothing happens when I click in the boxes.
?
Does anyone know what is wrong?
?
Thanks
Peter

Hi Peter,

You can install the wdsp library to enable NR2 and SNB.

Hi,

maybe it's missing some deps? But nothing changed in the Fedora packaging. If you found anything, please let me know. I will check it when I return from vacation :)

Thanks Dan,

Now NR2 and SNB work. I still cannot set the band filters. Any suggestion for solving that?

Hello Jaroslav,
?
I was missing the WDSP library. I installed it as suggested by Dan and now NR2 and SNB work.
It is still not possible to set the band filters

Hi Peter,

thanks for the info, I will add WDSP library into requirements in next Fedora update

Are you using a dark theme? I ran into this issue as the actual checks in the check boxes were not showing up due to the dark theme I was using. On the latest quisk, if you add a hermes lite radio, the filter check boxes are all automatically set correctly.

Peter,

I¡¯m not sure what could be your filter issue. Have you looked at the information in the HL2 wiki? There is a section about Quisk with a helpful setup video link.

Hello Heath,
?
Thanks for the suggestion.

I use the default theme, but reading your message, I just tried changing to some of the other themes, but it is the same. I can see the boxes, but they are all empty and I can't put a check mark in them.

Hello Dan,
?
I was following this exact video and when I came to the band section, I could not set the filters as he did in the video

Hi,
?
Will someone please send their Hermes Lite 2 band filter setup from their Quisk configuration file. I will then add it to my file. Maybe it will work then.
?
Thanks
Peter

The configuration data may be corrupted. Completely uninstalling the program then reinstalling might help if no one has a better option. I'm running Fedora 40 as well, using the program installed with dnf. I couldn't find where the configuration data is stored to see if there is any way to clear it. As someone noted, when installed the filters bits should be set properly by default.??
?
In the "Bands" tab there is a Tx IO label on the right side, with an enable check box underneath it. Normally the codes in the RX filter are used for TX as well and the TX IO bits are all blank but this enables different filters on transmit and receive. I doubt that's the problem with your setup as I can click on a bit to set it and click again to clear it on the boxes in both filter banks regardless of the check box setting. If you can't select bits on either filter bank, corrupted software or a permissions problem is likely the issue.?

Thanks Doug,
?
In the Bands tab, I can enable and disable the Tx IO as well as the bands. It is only the filters that I cannot change.
?
I tried uninstalling it, removed all quisk dot files from my home directory and reinstalling it. Same problem

Hi all,
?
Concerning my problem with the filter settings in the Band tab:
I just got this crazy idea of starting up Quisk as root (I don't know why it took me this long to think of this) and then I have some filters set and I can change them.
This means that it is a permission problem. I just don't know which file(s) have the wrong permissions. Can anyone help here?
?
Thanks
Peter

I suspect the problem is due to a Python library that was installed as sudo using pip. That's come back to bite me a few times and it can be tough to track down the offending library/module.?
?
Look at the Python packages required by Quisk in the Documentation (
See the instructions for removing bits of Quisk that may have been installed using pip, then reinstall using dnf from the Fedora repository or, if on Ubuntu, using apt from its repository. If any of the packages listed to be installed using "apt" in the documentation were installed using pip as sudo that could cause the problems you are seeing. Remove them using pip and install from Fedora/Ubuntu repositories or if that doesn't work reinstall using pip without "sudo".?
?
Glad you found the problem!
