Re: Quisk Version 4.2.29 January 2024

Hi,

in the 700D I can hear some analog noise like if the monitor is ON, even if it is OFF. In 700C it seems it's OK and the monitor checkbox works as expected. It's quisk-4.2.29 and system codec2-1.2.0 in Fedora 39, not the bundled one.

I will retry with the bundled codec. Are there some additional downstream patches used? Fedora builds upstream codec2 with the -DLPCNET=ON and it's pure 1.2.0 release from the [1] without additional downstream patches

thanks & regards

Re: Quisk Version 4.2.29 January 2024

Hello Jim.
?
We have now been able to test version 4.2.29 and it is working perfect in mode 1600, 700C and 700D.
We haven't tested mode 700E and 800XA yet, but we assume that they work perfect as well. The reason is that it is only me that have installed the new version.

Thank you very much for what you have made and for maintaining this fantastic program.

Re: Quisk Version 4.2.29 January 2024 - Windows 10 Fails to Build With subprocess error

It is working fine Jim. Been messing with it most of the evening and it's nice piece of software. I have to get the I/O board configured now and hopefully I'll be in business to xmit for now. You have certainly done a great job with all. By the way, how were the slopes??

Re: Quisk Version 4.2.29 January 2024 - Windows 10 Fails to Build With subprocess error

I am glad it is working. But the installation procedure installs a pre-compiled version of Quisk. This version does not need to be compiled. There is no pre-compiled version of Quisk for Python 3.12, so the installer tried to make one and failed. I was away skiing or I would have answered sooner.

Re: Quisk Version 4.2.29 January 2024 - Windows 10 Fails to Build With subprocess error

Solved - with the help of VE3TOS, Dave, and OZ9NY, Neils, from a discussion back in June 2023 on the reflector. I was using Python?3.12. Their recommendation was to use Python 3.10.? I?quickly uninstalled Python 3.12 and reinstalled 3.10 and Microsoft VS completed the build. I have a working Windows 10 version of Quisk 4.2.29 up and running. Thanks - Niels and Dave.

Thanks Gisele for leading me to the right path. All is not lost.?

Re: Quisk Version 4.2.29 January 2024 - Windows 10 Fails to Build With subprocess error

Quisk cannot be built with MSVC; need to use MinGW-w64 or similar.

Since Quisk needs C99 complex types support. etc. etc. A pity, but that's the situation.

Re: Quisk 4.2.29 with linux Mint on HP laptop with Softrock 6.1

Hi Mike
Thanks for there reply.
I'll try the? different inputs, take a screeshot and report back.
I did get this working some time ago with a previous version of Quisk and Linux with the mic plugged into
the Srartech usb sound card but I've had to reinstall Linux.

Re: Quisk 4.2.29 with linux Mint on HP laptop with Softrock 6.1

Under microphone what devices are listed available?? I would expect Built-in Analog Stereo or similar with maybe ¡°pulse:¡± or ¡°alsa:¡± in front them.? Try them all for best results.? Make sure your system audio sound setting defaults are not set to the Startech devices.

?

Your Softrock audio will go in and out via the USB soundcard (as you have set up) and your mic audio presumably from a separate source, either a plug in USB mic, or the laptop¡¯s built-in mic, not from the sound card.?

?

There should be no reason to switch the audio sources since they are not the same.? Quisk will put all Rx and TX IQ audio on the soundcard only.? Demodulated audio to the Radio Sound Output and read mic audio from the Microphone Input to do modulation.? 4 different devices.

?

Maybe post a screenshot of your audio config page showing the Microphone Input list box with audio devices showing.

Quisk 4.2.29 with linux Mint on HP laptop with Softrock 6.1

Installed Quisk with the Dec 2023 imstructions.
Works fine on receive on am, cw and ssb.
In transmit mode it puts out a carrier on am in the right place and cw works fine.

I'm using the Startech 7.1 usb soundcard.Which Quisk sees as "CM106 like device".
In Configure and? Sound for the softrock 6.1 I'm using the? following:-
Radio sound: Built in audio analog stereo (hw: 1,0)
IQRX: Pulse CM106 like analog stereo (hw,1,0)
IQTX: same as above:
What is the? best config for the microphone?
If i use the same? for the microphone I do get audio? out? but I have to switch the Laptop audio fron line in to microphone (CM106 like) on transmit and? then back tp? line in (CM106 like)for receive.

Re: Quisk Version 4.2.29 January 2024

Hi Jim,,in my case I can listen my voice when turning on only "FDX" . If I turn on "monitor" also, I get a noise only. In all case the TX send power out - infortunatly no Free DV users here.

A question for the developper : do you intend to add "pure signal" in quisk ?

Thanks and happy new year to you and all members.

Re: Quisk Version 4.2.29 January 2024

Thanks for the info, we'll try it as soon as we get the chance, it's my son who services us, so he'll need to stop by here first. Don't know exactly when he will come by at the moment, but you should be notified as soon as we are ready.
?
The modes we are using are 1600 and by QRM it is mostly 700C and 700D.
?
We are very much looking forward to trying it all out! Thanks for your work and the extra feature.
?
Would it be possible to have pre-emphasis enabled in FDV mode? As it is now, the voices are very dark and therefore we use an equalizer when we run FDV.

Mode 700C has never had a text field, nor should it, as it concentrates entirely on the voice part.
?
We are extremely grateful to you for your work.

I worked on FreeDV and updated the DLL to a recent version. Please test the latest version of Quisk.

Re: Quisk Version 4.2.29 January 2024

Mode 700C doesn't produce a banner here either, but the coding is almost identical to the other 700x modes. I have not found documentation to see if this is normal.

Re: Quisk Version 4.2.29 January 2024

Is 700C meant to provide a banner? It doesn't in my case although the others do.

Re: Quisk Version 4.2.29 January 2024

Hello Jim,

Many thanks for this upgrade and on a direct connection to Quisk it seems to be working well and it certainly is a nice feature to be able to listen to the raw signal with the monitor. I guess that you have not looked at the remote which does not work at all for FreeDV and simply produces a tone on the carrier frequency with fairly wide sidebands.

Mode 800XA seems to be working although I have not found anyone to talk to on it. It seems a lot wider than 700X but I need to look at the spec before I comment further.

Thanks very much, Graeme ZL2TE
