Hi all. Just to let folk know the galley at dbsc are doing breakfasts and lunches for those sailors that want some hot food this weekend. Also for the keen beans remember to sign up for profiling by Sunday night. Abbie's going to be there first thing on Saturday dropping ribs off so can answer any questions about it. Bear.

19/20th January 6
Hi all. Sorry meant to email round a couple of days ago. Plan for Saturday at the Tay is morning sail from 9:30 to 11:30 on the water, dart fleet is out then so we've rescue cover. Suzie/Tom Irvine and Eoghan/pal are heading out if anyone else keen? I know Colin's having a weekend off. Sunday. Suzie and Maise keen but they're only takers just now. Anyone else? Suzie's using class boat because hers was left at the bay for Anna and Niamh to sail this weekend although that's just been canned. Aghhh. I'll see if any of the 4000s going out as well to make numbers up. Bear

Urggent - anyone wanting to take up this house for the Largs GP. 2
Hi all, I'd half reserved a house in Largs for the Largs academy and GP. Thursday night to SUnday night. I'm not going to take it up, I'll stay with pals instead but does anyone else want it? I said I'd get back to him by tonight, forgot last week so he'd needing a very quick answer. It would hold 4 sailors and couple of sets of parents with beds to spare. Dated inside but it's fine. I booked it for Anna, Niamh, Bella and some other youths to stay in for Youths last year so it was party central, amazingly he's renting it to me again. Mairi stayed in it as well briefly and said it was fine. https://www.homeaway.co.uk/p18143 Cheers Bear If anyone wants they'd need to let me know tonight and I'd forward booking. Copied in Robbie, I assume you're staying in nice new Winnabego but just in case it's of interest. Dear David, Good to hear from you. At the present time the house calendar is quiet for May 2019 and the dates you mention are available. The cost for 4 days for 6 persons ,including linen .towels etc, is ?420. For each additional person add ?36. Trust this meets with your satisfaction and I look forward to hearing from you. Your weather was indeed poor this year especially for sailing. Even the good spell enjoyed lately produced some very light winds. Too much high pressure. Sometimes you just can't win! However my yachting experience (albeit some years back) found May to be a good period for Clyde yachting. kind regards, Leonard David Sturrock Angus Heathers Ltd. Class asscociation memebership 7
Hi all, Can I ask folk that are doing more than the very odd day to join up to the class association. I've attached last news letter, there's some info on accessing Niall's videos that sailors might be interested in. Neil Pryde are also offering a 25% discount for class members so good chance to make your money back!! We had a lot of support from class. Last autumn they paid for Niall to come up and do the Tummel transition weekend, which wasn't cheap, and I'm asking them for more support towards the try a 29er/training camp as part of Tummel Week so it would be great if we could get a pile of new northern members joining the class to justify it. Where we running class training events such as the Febuary ones we'll need to charge a levy for non class memebers. We're using the class insurance cover to cover things such as employers liability etc so again you're getting benefits from that. This Sunday 3rd Feb 5
Hi all, We were going to have three 29ers out this Sunday at the Tay but the student event that was going to be at Forfar has now had to be shifted to RTYC because Forfar Loch frozen. It's not clear if there will be any ribs on Sunday or not for the 29ers to go out, I'm down tomorrow anyway and will see how busy it is and if they're using their own ribs or Tay's as well. Sandy wasn't sure. I'll update folk tomorrow night. Bear

Open class training in Feb. 14
Hi all, Trying to get at least one and hopefully two weekends class training with Anna sorted out in Feb. 23/24th RTYC Pretty sure this one will go ahead so just checking to see if enough folk. I know it clashes with a topper event though. Also hoping to perhaps do one on the 16/17th at RTYC as well and will know about this by this weekend. Can folk let me know if they're up for either weekend and if we can get three boats for either I'll set it up. I know Maisie can't do either, Suzie keen to crew so if anyone needs a crew get in touch with her. Cheers Bear

Training weekends at RTYC 4
I've finally got the weekends set up in https://29eruk.ourclubadmin.com/index.php?timeout I've made it ?70 per boat for the weekend so ?35 each which is a bargain for various reasons. However it's been run using class insurance to cover employers liability, coach cover etc and so all sailors need to be either a temporary member of the class for a weekend which is ?15 or full member for the year which is ?40. I'm still waiting to hear if you can convert your ?15 into a down payment on the ?40 if you do a second event. I'd tried to set it up so you could pay as either member or non member on line but it got very complicated. Susan you'll just need to enter boat as Cat and Evie for both days. Think Anna will email out tonight but the plan is rigged but not changed for 9:30. We're going to have a second rib out on the water if there's much breeze to provide rescue cover so that the coach boats kept free to coach. Colin or I will man that one but we'll need a crew in each boat both days so can we have a couple of volunteers please for this weekend for each day. Should be able to dry launch you!! Please let me know which days you can do in advance so we know we're covered. Also if anyone's interested the coastal skiff rowing folk have an open show and row on Saturday morning from about 9:30 - 12:00 and they're happy to take anyone out if they fancy a go. There's a microwave and kettle available in the clubhouse for heating up food. Bear

Sunday 16th
Hi all, Richard, Andy, Neil and myself are all down for ribs tomorrow. Will perm three from four morning and afternoon but I'd suggest that it might be wise, given forecast, to have an adult in drysuit on hand for launch/recovery. It's straight onshore and could be fresh! So if you've got a drysuit bring it in other words. Also has anyone got the Yachting Life sailingfast edition of the Scottish calendar. If so can they bring it tomorrow, just trying to see what options there are for venues that might suit. Cheers Bear

First two weekends in March 4
If anyone that's down at Tay this weekend wants to leave their boat and do same sailing on the 2/3rd or 9/10th March that's no problem. We can get a rib on either Saturday or Sunday for those weekends. I know Dalgety doesn't start in action until last weekend in March. Just thought I was better giving you some time to think about it rather than saying on Sunday afternoon. 16/17th March is then Lomond for a RYAS academy. Bear

Sunday 10th
Looks like plan is for 3 boats so far for Sunday. Suzie/Maisie Stuart/Orri Eoghan/TBC LW is at 10:21 so ideally rigged for 9:30 and launch asap? That way if it's too windy etc we can get boats all packed up and be home for the afternoon. Forecast looks OK at the moment but Saturday has been all over the shop. I'd suggest a flask of hot stuff for putting in rib and snacks!! Bear

2019/20 events 5
A few of us had a quick chat last weekend. I've added on a few more options and put in junior dates etc. We reckoned 4 from 6 to count. Helms and crews score own results and so incentive for folk to go and sail in other boats if their normal partner can't make an event. At the moment the two in light blue so open for debate are Derwent and NE Youths at YDSC Derwent is a English Bank holiday weekend but Scottish schools back. At the moment there are only four boats in the north of England that I know of sailing actively and they're all good and unlikely to do Derwent after a very busy European summer. Tom/Pierce, Athena/Maddie, Sam/Simon, Sian/Madeline. Sally Bristow, who's from Leigh and Lowton and is also the transitioning rep said there's a multi class transition day in the spring and after that they'll have an idea if any new boats from Yorkshire Dales north. I don't think there's much point in going unless there's some prospect of perhaps three boats joining in from NoE. If they had a few NoE boats they could put on a training day etc beforehand. Alternatively that weekend we could tag onto the junior travellers at Venachar so the weekend is set, we just decide venue later would be my thoughts. Would Venachar take us? Need another course? It's a good venue for any new boats and we could take junior sailors out for joy rides after sailing. NE Youth champs at Yorkshire Dales was a really good event a couple of years ago and we'd 13 boats at it from Wales north and so I'd keep it in. I think the good boats above would support. It's the week before Ovi champs at WPNSA so that's only issue. It's also just being planned just now and so not 100% definite. RYAS transition weekend is same weekend as Brown Cup training. Think we all reckoned Brown Cup itself would be great to do with the 29er fleet. Scottish Club Trophy is at Loch Earn 17/18th August I've put in as many other events as I know about that might be of interest, it probably makes it more fun if we go as a gang to any that folk fancy doing but it's probably just a case of looking at forecast a few days in advance and coordinating. If anyone has a copy of the Yachting Life dates that would be handy to fill in any more. Celtic Cup. David/Simon and I have discussed the idea of a Celtic cup . 3 to count with one having to be from other side of the water. I've put in the Irish dates and I'm sure they'd make anyone welcome that wants to go over. Anyone any thoughts. The two Northern events that might work for Simon etc are RYAS winters and the Northern GP in June 2020. But their sailing calendar seems to work on normal years. Anyway if anyone reckons they'd be interested have a word with Simon. Robbie does have a triple trailer that sure you could borrow. Anyway just a few thought that we can discuss this weekend. David and David from Derwent. Are your boys likely to be sailing 29er after summer at Derwent? It's much more fun than a 4.7!! At one point you'd said there were maybe three there?? Bear

Sailing 23rd March 4
I know Eoghan/Ben and danny/Tom aren't around this weekend but is anyone else wanting to sail at the Tay. Forecast for Saturday is pretty good. Suzie is ideally wanting to play hockey in the morning but could be down to club for 12:30. Have asked Poppy, topper sailor from Melrose, if she fancies getting out but not heard back. Bear

NATIONALS 2019
Following our conversations today I have just signed Alastair and Sam up for the nationals - we are the first boat to enter!!! Additionally I have just made a reservation for our campervan on site - There are now only 2 pitches left on site with electrical hookup so if anyone else is thinking of staying on site I would suggest booking asap. Camping pitches are booked directly with Plas Heli through their website. Non serviced camping pitches are still available down at the end but I guess these may fill up quickly as well, especially once all the serviced pitches are gone. Richard _._,_._,_

Irish question 5
Hi all, I've an Irish pair chartering class boat and doing training and GP. The mother is wondering if any of the 29er families could put the kids up and pick up drop off from airport. Saves parents having to flyover etc. Looks like into Glasgow at 16:40 on the Thursday, they could wait in airport for a couple of hours though. Or Edinburgh 20:50 Flight home 17:05 on Monday which would work well. Think they'd need to book flights very soon so if anyone can help let me know and I'll put you in touch. PS They're from Royal Cork so always handy for reciprocating if kids ever doing an Irish road trip. Bear CC'd in Jo Harris and Robbie. David Sturrock Angus Heathers Ltd. Largs - VSRs need a lift down. 14
Hi all, RYAS are lending us a couple of VSRs for the event and indeed they're going to need them down for the academy as well. However they've lost all their Volvos just now and seem to be getting pool cars which won't get sorted and tow bars on in enough time to take any ribs down. We therefore need a couple of folk to take down the VSRs from Sailingfast near Falkirk to Largs. They can be taken down any time from now on, just needs to be arranged with Duncan and Matt. Is anyone heading down in that direction for work/pleasure and can take a rib please. Or anyone in central Scotland that could take an evening run down, RYAS or 29er class will pay fuel. I'm not down until Sunday and they're now putting on two coaches, Gillies and Anna so they need both boats there for Friday first thing. Now got class boat coming down from Tay as well for the Irish boys. Robb The trailers are plated at 1,500kg and so your car needs to be able to tow a braked trailer of that weight. My Focus can't but Passat can to give you an idea. The actual weight is well under 1,000kg Matt said so not really that heavy but DVLA go by plated weight of trailer. Can a couple of folk put their hands up for this one please. I know Robbie's taking down rib and 29er but copied him in just in case he's at Largs for any reason before then. Cheers Bear

Tummel Week details 4
Hi all, Tummel Week booking and full details available via website. They're expecting it to be busy this year so I'd book a tent space soon. https://lochtummelsc.org/index.php/all-cats/417-tummel-week-2019 I've also provisionally arranged for Ben Ibbotson to come along to do some coaching, one to one on the water sessions, boat fettling, fitness, nationals prep, measurement issues etc. I know no one will book just now but can folk please confirm if they're up for that so I can confirm it all with him. He's definitely not intending to be doing it full time, there's got to be lots of fun, paddle board towing races etc in between times as well so it will be pretty flexible. Costs I reckon at ?60 each sailor for the 7 days, it might go up or down a wee bit depending on numbers so if you can please let me know if you think it's a good idea please!! For those in this group that are just transitioning there's options of RYAS academy with Gillies Munro over weekend at start of Tummel Week or class organised transition coaching part time for five days throughout week. We've got at least 3 charter boats that other transitioning sailors can use for these training events, weekend will be full time, for week itself 2 pairs will share a boat. The intention is they'll do the actual Tummel Week races in their own, parents or pals boat. All the options should no be live on the 29er website. The transition options are all booked per sailor so that they don't need a pal to come along. The race training is per boat. https://29eruk.ourclubadmin.com/ Cheers Bear David Sturrock Angus Heathers Ltd. Crosston Farm, Letham, Angus, DD8 2NZ Tel 01307 818504 Mobile 07952 473195
