Yeah, I had a 1963 Cherokee 180 for several years. I've built two hangars and made the 40' bi-fold doors from scratch.

Are you the Smith doors I see on display at Oshkosh?

I sold my company in 2004
Yes it is Smith Door , Smith Doors, Smith Hangar Door , JW Smith and Smith Industrial is found on the castings and DBA.?
?
It started with father in building tee hangars using JW Smith, SMITH INDUSTRIAL was for manufacturing model engines which never happen.?
Then everyone was sending checks with Smith Hangar door , Smith Door or Smith Doors. So 1980’s just started on new patterns Smith Door and never changed on older patterns.??
?
I was in aircraft hangar and Door from 1970’s and just doors after 1976 till 2004 most of my life.?
?
I hope that helps?

We own a '41 Taylorcraft BC-12d and Curtis Pitts Big Hickey? ;)

My father had a couple of planes before I was born, but I never got to see them other than in pictures.? He had a Piper Cub for personal use and he also joined with a couple of other guys and had a C-47. They used that for air freight and some tax free moving of sugar from South America to a big hotel in NY during the war.

He taught me tool use, and to repair/make things you need as well as keep an eye out for valuable trash.? He grew up on a farm so that was how you did things.

The DC3 was great aircraft.?
Built for what we call bad runways today. I do not know of a replacement today

There's a definite advantage to machines that were designed to work in less than ideal conditions.? When we moved here everyone expected us to buy a BMW or Toyota but we bought a Lada 4x4 SUV.? Our friends now call our car The Tank after seeing me drive/swim through mud and potholes that would swallow a lessor car.

I tend to design stuff that will work in less than ideal conditions.? One of the TV studios declared our lighting controls to be the gold standard that new stuff had to compare to.? I'll bet some of our stuff from a couple of decades ago is still in use.

Presently no, but my dad still is.
I trust you know what a Pitts Special is?
We now own the Big Hickey Curtis built for himself to travel between Pa. and his factory in Florida.
Curtis never finished it, but we got it airworthy about a decade ago.
It is very fast.
I have some time in a PA-28-140 and have the prop off a 180 hanging in my livingroom.

I wanted to make a ceiling fan out of a prop, but never got around to it.
