The purpose of the list:
This list is about rebuilding, repairing or modifying machine tools, defined as power tools which depend upon accurate mechanical alignment of the parts for proper operation.
There is no restriction about the type of machine whether intended for wood, metal or any other material. Expected topics are alignment, reconditioning of worn surfaces, unwanted flexing of machine components, etc and the measurement techniques required to perform such work.
While there is no educational requirement to participate, it is hoped that at least some members will be able to carry on a conversation at the level of a professional mechanical engineer familiar with mechanics of materials and manufacturing processes at a graduate course level.
The rules of conduct:
"Ex cathedra" pronouncements or insults and abuse of other list members will not be tolerated.
"I've been doing this for 30 years and you're wrong." will lead to an immediate ban. If you've been doing it for 30 years you should be able to explain the reason someone is wrong such that all can understand it. If you cannot or are unwilling to take the trouble to write such an explanation, do not post.
If supporting references are required they should come from formal technical literature. Some guy on YouTube is *not* a proof of anything, though they may be referenced as an example of how to perform some procedure. Or in many cases, how *not* to do something.
