Re: iOS 18.1.1 and reminders.

I¡¯m glad I retired so I don¡¯t have to use Reminders any more. My wife has taken over that job.

I'm never quite sure why software companies make big sweeping on/off changes without any preferences to shut them off. Of course, Apple has alway had in it's mind what is right for the user, even if it runs into their increasingly ignored interface guidlines.

While griping, lemme tell you why I don't use reminders more ... I started finding them useful once there were sublists. BUT ... while sublists work on my iPhone, they don't work in Ventura, which is the last macOS I can use (still on Intel). Whatever.

One good point with iOS 18: the app preferences are much less of a mess. I'm glad that Apple decided putting all apps in alphabetical order could be useful.

I called Apple and they said there is no way to turn that feature off. However the person I talked to created a ticket. Right now it is at level 3 and as people call in to complain about the issue they add those complaints to the ticket. As they add complainants to the ticket it will increase the ticket to level 2 and eventually (if enough people complain) it will reach level 1. If that happens the complaint goes to the engineers who hopefully will provide a fix.

So I am asking all my friends who have iOS 18 to call apple and complain. (Call even if you don¡¯t use reminders). If you do use reminders and like that the reminders show up in calendar then follow your heart.

If you do call then you will have my undying gratitude. Also please pass this on to all your Apple iPhone user friends and aquaintances.

Not Mac-related Dell Battery for Sale

This is not Mac-related, but I have a brand-new Dell laptop battery for sale if anyone can use it. Purchased it for my husband's PC. Wanted to back up his hard drive before I took the computer apart to replace the battery. Procrastinator that I am, by the time I figured out how to back up the hard drive, the hard drive died and we ended up buying him a new computer. So this was never used and no longer needed. Here is a link with all the specs.
Asking $20.

Thanks!

On Pages, for example, all Keyboard shortcuts are grayed out. I've gone to Sys. Settings-Keyboard- Restore Default on various options, but still no activated K. S. on Pages. What did I do wrong?

I didn¡¯t read your original message carefully enough to let Indianapolis sink in. I¡¯d try three things to start with:

(1) While logged into the new user¡¯s account, check System Settings¡>General>Language & Region.

(2) Try changing the city in PIA to something else, just to see if its default is messed up. By the way, to my surprise, PIA does have a Romanian POP.

(3) Peek at your PIA settings via the ? popup in the upper right-hand corner. There are choices for language and multi hop buried in there.

Also, by change the POP Setting do you mean the location? As I said the location is set for Indianapolis and I don¡¯t know why it thinks I am in Romania.

It¡¯s the location from which you emerge into the wide cruel world. POP=Point of Presence

Yet when I open a browser window I get a message in Romanian. When I log on to google it thinks I am in Romania and wants to know if that¡¯s okay.

In my primary user account this doesn¡¯t happen?

Is there some reason you can¡¯t change the POP from Romania to something else via the PIA thingie in the menu bar? My experience is it remembers the previous selection next time it¡¯s run. I use Montreal as my POP much of the time during the summer because that fools MLB into letting me watch Reds games, and I choose something like Chicago otherwise so Amazon doesn¡¯t give me Canadian prices.

Re: Website hosting

I don't know their pricing as it varies with which plan you pick but I strongly recommend HostMySite.com Harry.
Originally years ago, Hosting.com was based right here in Louisville.? They were eventually purchased by HostMySite, who has always done a good job for me.

I currently use A2 Webhosting for my website. In 2021 I paid $215.00 for three years.

Today they want over $700.00 for three years - a little more than 3 and 1/2 times the amount from three years ago.

Can anyone recommend a less expensive web host for me?

Thanks.
