Locked Re: Testing transistors for noise in the LZ1AQ loop amp circuit and Norton circuit
QUOTE (first paragraph): " And it turns out, at least using this particular circuit, the input transistor completely sets the noise level; the output transistor just amplifies for a higher output."

I agree, it doesn't make any sense to remove them, plus they are an important part of matching the amplifier input impedance to that of the loop, as I mentioned many times before on this group. The

I put one of these together. It's an ugly spud but it works in that I see similar results here. My various 2N2222s and PN2222s are anywhere from 3 to 6 dB noisier than the 2N5109s are. Most of the

Thank you Bernard. But I would caution those with strong local FM stations to think carefully before taking out the FM filter components. My LZ1AQ's definitely needs the FM filter. Without it I get a

Hi Owen, No, had not heard of this one before. Where did you see it mentioned being LZ1AQ design? I didn't see it in the ad at that link, but could have missed it. Steve

I've filled in some LF noise for several transistors I didn't test--all tested transistors should now show both LF noise at 218 kHz, and 10 MHz gain and noise figure.
