Re: Ikin Norton 9 dB preamp tested with several transistors
Rule of thumb:
Uncoated manganese-zinc Mn/Zn ferrites (#73, #77 ) with high permeability are conductive.
Nickel-Zinc ferrites Ni/Zn (#43,? #61, 4C65) with lower permeability are isolators.

Re: Ikin Norton 9 dB preamp tested with several transistors
Thank you, yes wire wrap wire can be used however in my tests with the binocular core I can't get more than 21 wraps using it. That would work for the input transformer (8 + 4 + 4 = 16) in this

Re: Ikin Norton 9 dB preamp tested with several transistors
If you use #30 "WIRE WRAP WIRE", the shorting of the windings to the core material is minimized greatly. ?I use this wire and never have had a problem. The insulation material "TOUGH" as nails.

Re: What Loop to Use With LZ1AQ Amp by N4CY
Thanks for all the replies.
Looks like I will order the 5/8¡± fuel line and try that first.
I have a Drake R8A on the way and that is what I will be using with the amplified loop.
Hopefully the local

Re: Ikin Norton 9 dB preamp tested with several transistors
I use -61 material ferrite beads, Fair-Rite 2661000101, mouser.com carries it. The -73 material binocular cores, 302 size, are Fair-Rite 2873000302, also carried by mouser.com. The -73 material is

I used a pair of cross-coupled aluminum hula hoops ( https://www.firetoys.co.uk/collections/hula-hoops/products/polished-aluminium-hula-hoop-90cm ). This is not the budget option, but the loops are

Yes, the 100 ohm pot is adjusted to try to get both 2IMD products at the same level in my tests.

Ikin Norton 9 dB preamp tested with several transistors
I tested three different transistors in the Ikin Norton 9 dB circuit--2SC5551, BFU590QX, 2SC3357 (all SOT-89 package). I used Everett N4CY's PCB. All were tested at 12.0 volts supply and bias set for

You are correct. Most RF switches come with BNCs or N connectors. Heaven
forbid the "UHF" connectors. All are quite common. I use those available
from Alpha Delta and Diawa. If you want SMA, I'd
