If you use a standard 0 / 180 combiners, you only end up with a resultant linear polarisation, at 45 degrees to the two sets of elements.

The JH-6-4 is quite complicated, and uses precision value capacitor and inductors, which is why it is so expensive, it also probably requires a bit of tweaking in order to optimise the response curves.

I have a much simpler circuit that I reverse engineered from a pair of crossed CSA loops, if you wish to try making your own.
