Another source of regen receivers and innovative loop and resonant circuits are the groups involved in crystal radio work ¨C these folks use both unpowered (crystal) sets and regen sets for reception. You may wish to check some of the groups.io sites for these folks. There may be a lot applicable to this project.

Use of high Q coils, adjustable coupling (variable coupling between stages and variometer use) and so on may help you in the ¡°quest¡±...
?
Another interesting idea is to use an ¡°autotransformer¡± style of coupling to a tuned receive loop, using an output transformer tied to he main loop for matching Z, or use an autotransformer (ferrite or air core) between stages. It will take some effort to implement a good design, but if the coupling is JUST right, may pay big dividends.
?
A ¡°double tuned¡± passive loop may allow an autotransformer type of approach, and feed into the first amplifier stage pre-regen stage.
?
Never tried this, but you MIGHT be able to make a regen autotransformer as part of the loop input coupling stage ¨C using either the main loop or possibly the secondary in lieu, easer to do with a ferrite core, rod or ideally a toroid.
?
Not sure if any of these suggestions helps you at all, but best of luck. Active Q multiphasing (Q-phasing) is the approach I am mentioning. You can find quite a bit for AM MW BCB Dxing online with a search like this. This may allow a way to get good reception (assuming main loop is well made, and low noise).
?
Could be an interesting project!
