FLDIGI on Android Question 3
Happy New Year, Folks... :) I tried to install FLDIGI for Android on two devices that run GrapheneOS, which is an AOSP(Android Open Source Project) Rom. If you're not familiar, GrapheneOS has higher security built into it and as such runs Google Play in a sandbox so it doesn't have copious access to everything on the phone or tablet (basically runs as a user level app and not 'root'). I attempted to install FLDIGI on a Google Tablet running GrOS and it errored out with 'App not installed as app isn't compatiable with your phone'. I tried installing it on my Google Pixel 8 phone running GrOS as a test and it errored with the same message. Now I'm able to install apps from the Google Play store with no issues and even sideload from F-Droid and other repositories so I haven't seen this error with any other apps I've used so far (This is the first time seeing an error of any kind). Is FLDIGI actually looking for a Google OEM ROM image (via a specific OS identifying string) because it seems to have a problem with an AOSP version? The APK I attempted to install was version 1.5.0 from the Sourceforge repository. Any ideas? Thanks! Steve Baetz (N2YNQ)

[winfldigi] fldigi 4.2.06.18 test version available at
Hi Tobias, I'll fix the tooltip. I tested for Mid-Latitude-Disturbed NVIS 0 dB s/n; with 0, 1, 2 msec shaping. Did not see any decrease in decode performance. 4 or more msec will effect decode under stressful HF conditions. The shaping does reduce the bandwidth for those situations where that is critical and signal is expected to be strong. David On 12/30/24 16:20, T? via groups.io wrote:

No S/SWR/Power Meter on Ten Tec 550 Pegasus 9
Hi all, Thanks for all the work you do on the fl-suite of software. Wanted to share an issue I¡¯m having with flrig and the Ten Ten 550 Pegasus transceiver. I can connect and operate the radio just fine through a USB-to-serial adapter properly configured from flrig, minus the S meter, SWR meter, and power meter. I have tried versions 2.0.05 and 2.0.0 on Mac, as well as versions 1.4.7, 2.0.0, and 2.0.05 on Fedora Linux and Raspbian, to no avail. None show the any indication of the meter. I¡¯m happy to help troubleshoot further, just don¡¯t know what would be helpful right now. Any help here would be great! Very respectfully, Geoff Marr W6MKA

flrig stopped working on my Mac -- any suggestions? 4
I've had flrig working on my MacBook Air (M2, running macOS 15.2) for a few days with my Xiegu X6200 (using the X6100 rig choice in prefs). With the exception of needing to reboot between usages of it and the radio, it was working fine. The reboots were required because after shutting down flrig and the radio, the next time I started up the radio and flrig, it would tell me that the serial port was in use by another program (it wasn't, as far as I can tell). Suddenly, last night, every time I would start up flrig, it would freeze with the "Initializing" progress bar showing. I would eventually have to kill the process ("killall flrig") to get it to stop. I tried rebooting multiple times with no change. Today, I removed the .flrig folder in case the config files had somehow become corrupted. When I set up the config and hit the "Init" button, it once again froze up on me. A little while ago, I downloaded the signed (notarized) version of 2.0.5.85 from another thread in this group and installed it. Deleted the .flrig folder once again so I was starting with no pre-existing config, but this version also freezes when I hit the "Init" button. Before deciding to give flrig a try, I had previously used HamLib's rigctld to control the radio. To verify that the radio is "talking" fine through the specified serial port, I ran rigctld just now and connected to the radio through JTDX. After reconfiguring JTDX to use HamLib, it connected perfectly. So it appears that it's not a problem with the USB serial port, nor does it appear to be a problem with the radio. I'd *really* like to be able to use flrig because I have never figured out a way to make RUMlogNG work with HamLib/rigctld but it worked perfectly with flrig until flrig stopped working for me. Any suggestions? Thanks, Marc nz9a

FLMSG, file | open nothing happens. RPi 4b, bookworm, v4.0.23 2
The objective is to open a previously-received file and relay it. I cannot open a file from file | open. file | folders, double click on a file - file opens in mousepad but not in the FLMSG window. I just did a build from AmRRON-Setup-Script.sh. I had the same problem with the previous version. It has worked in the past.

When fldigi runs for a while weirdness in the WF happens.
Dave, Here is a curiosity question: I am running the current alpha code (4.2.06.15) now, but have seen this multiple line blurring effect going back a ways in previous versions. If I run fldigi on this Win 11 or my old Win 10 i7 boxen for a while, The display goes like: and the copy become erratic. If I close fldigi and immediately restart the display goes back to normal and copy is nominal: This appears to happen in all digital modes I commonly use (most often Thor, Olivia, FSQ - but also others). It also impacts all visible signals on the waterfall together. I notice it on the 7300 because it is my primary "digital" radio, but also have seen it on the 705 and 7610. At first I thought it was a propagation artifact, until I restarted the program and immediately the blurring was gone. Restarting the program always clears things up. Any clues what this might be? Something with the fourier algorithm associated with WF and decode? I am sure my cat did not walk on the keyboard... :) Note, those two birdies seem to be generated away from the QTH - they are periodic and don't bother me when there. They were convenient to show what happens to all signals. -- Jack Spitznagel KD4IZ FM19oo Pakton, MD

fldigi and PicoRX + introduction
Hello, I am trying to get fldigi to talk with my PicoRX via its Kenwood TS-480 emulation but all that happens is that fldigi stalls until it runs out of retries I think. Has anyone had any luck getting it to work? I have gotten Grig to communicate with PicoRX so the communication works. As for a introduction, I am looking for a way to receive Weather Fax and since I am Linux user, fldigi looks very appealing. I have tried to get a ham license but I am not that interested in transmitting. //P?r aka MrSVCD

Bug or "Feature"? Re: fldigi 4.2.06.14 development test version posted at 3
Hi. Built without errors on LMDE 6 / Cinnamon on Intel based PC. Runs well, but... Bug or "feature"? The AFC button is permanently "greyed out" in all modes, but AFC is actually active (ON) all the time! This was not the case with 4.2.06 (release version) or the 4.2.06.07 alpha, though I see is also an issue with 4.2.06.09. So what changed between alphas '.07 and '.09 ? It is especially problematic when Fldigi is left monitoring unattended in MFSK32 for such things as the weekly SW Radiogram broadcast, as it wanders off frequency when noise, or other non digital audio, voice or music, opens the digital squelch. (That does have a hair trigger it seems...) OK, so if full bw RxID is enabled, it comes back when that is seen, but it can also wander off frequency during active reception of MFSK images! Resulting in lost or mangled text or images etc that follow. (The image being received when it wanders, is NOT affected!) As above, with 4.2.06 (Release) or 4.2.06.07 Alpha, this was not an issue, the AFC button was not "greyed out" and one could turn freely select the AFC ON/OFF setting as desired. Seasons Greetings etc. 73 Dave G0WBX.

Interfaceing FLDIGI 3
Dear all, especially David, I'm working on a log program dedicated to SOTA activations. https://github.com/leventelist/llog This uses the GTK-4 toolkit, and I'm in the middle of adding fancy features like - Reading the position from GPSd - Getting the nearest SOTA summit reference - Getting the QRG from the rig using Hamlib Things are started to work, but I now want to get data from Fldigi. The data I request are the following: - Callsign - QRG - RST - Op. Name My question if there was an interface I can connect to from my log program? If so, are there any examples out there how to do that? Thanks and 73 de HA5OGL -- Levente Kovacs Senior Electronic Engineer W: http://levente.logonex.eu

Updating the FLdigi build wiki 5
I recently redid my Linux machine and the newest version of Ubuntu 24.04.1 handles repos differently. Making the the build instructions deprecated. 'Sudo apt build-dep fldigi' no longer works because you cannot edit sources.list because it doesn't exist. Is there a list of depends that I can install prior to building FLdigi? I managed to handle it while watching the ./configure. Each time it failed I read why and then tracked down that dependancy. Rinse and repeat. I am sure I missed a few, FLdigi worked on the nbems net yesterday, but I want to make sure I have the complete program with no features or options missing. Thanks!

fldigi 4.2.06 crash at end of MFSK64 image send
Running fldigi 4.2.06 under Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon 6.0.4 - full sysinfo at end if needed. Sent a large color image which was received. As it finished, fldigi closed with the image window. After reopening, the software lost the ability to transmit text - would key the transmitter but not send anything. Finally rebooted the computer to get an ident sent. I don't use image transmission very often. If it's a size issue, the image was a 436kB color image that took about 14 min to send, a portion of a screenshot that included the waterfall of something to share with a net. Similarly, there have been crashes if the image send is aborted before completion. Sometimes killing the fldigi process by pid gets things working again without rebooting the system. That didn't help this time - was able to restart the software but unable to send anything until I finally rebooted the computer. 73, Mark Avery, KE8NHT, Beavercreek, OH, EM79xq System: Kernel: 5.15.0-126-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 11.4.0 Desktop: Cinnamon 6.0.4 tk: GTK 3.24.33 wm: muffin vt: 7 dm: LightDM 1.30.0 Distro: Linux Mint 21.3 Virginia base: Ubuntu 22.04 jammy Machine: Type: Mini-pc System: ATOPNUC product: ATOPNUC MA90 v: V1.0 serial: <superuser required> Mobo: ATOPNUC model: ATOPNUC MA90 v: Version 1.0 serial: <superuser required> UEFI: American Megatrends v: ASB20008 date: 07/19/2022 CPU: Info: dual core model: AMD A9-9400 RADEON R5 5 COMPUTE CORES 2C+3G bits: 64 type: MCP smt: <unsupported> arch: Excavator rev: 0 cache: L1: 192 KiB L2: 2 MiB Speed (MHz): avg: 2583 high: 2603 min/max: 1400/2400 boost: enabled cores: 1: 2603 2: 2563 bogomips: 9582 Flags: avx avx2 ht lm nx pae sse sse2 sse3 sse4_1 sse4_2 sse4a ssse3 svm Graphics: Device-1: AMD Stoney [Radeon R2/R3/R4/R5 Graphics] driver: amdgpu v: kernel ports: active: HDMI-A-1,HDMI-A-2 empty: DP-1 bus-ID: 00:01.0 chip-ID: 1002:98e4 class-ID: 0300 Display: x11 server: X.Org v: 1.21.1.4 driver: X: loaded: amdgpu,ati unloaded: fbdev,modesetting,vesa gpu: amdgpu display-ID: :0 screens: 1 Screen-1: 0 s-res: 3840x1080 s-dpi: 96 s-size: 1016x285mm (40.0x11.2") s-diag: 1055mm (41.5") Monitor-1: HDMI-A-0 mapped: HDMI-A-1 pos: primary,left model: Z1-3 serial: <filter> res: 1920x1080 dpi: 141 size: 347x197mm (13.7x7.8") diag: 399mm (15.7") modes: max: 1920x1080 min: 640x480 Monitor-2: HDMI-A-1 mapped: HDMI-A-2 pos: right model: KYY serial: <filter> res: 1920x1080 hz: 60 dpi: 143 size: 340x190mm (13.4x7.5") diag: 398mm (15.7") modes: max: 1920x1080 min: 640x480 OpenGL: renderer: STONEY (stoney LLVM 15.0.7 DRM 3.42 5.15.0-126-generic) v: 4.5 Mesa 23.2.1-1ubuntu3.1~22.04.2 direct render: Yes Audio: Device-1: AMD driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel bus-ID: 00:01.1 chip-ID: 1002:15b3 class-ID: 0403 Device-2: AMD Family 15h Audio vendor: Conexant Systems driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel bus-ID: 00:09.2 chip-ID: 1022:157a class-ID: 0403 Device-3: Texas Instruments PCM2901 Audio Codec type: USB driver: hid-generic,snd-usb-audio,usbhid bus-ID: 1-1.2.4:7 chip-ID: 08bb:2901 class-ID: 0300 Device-4: Generalplus USB Audio Device type: USB driver: hid-generic,snd-usb-audio,usbhid bus-ID: 2-3:3 chip-ID: 1b3f:2008 class-ID: 0300 Sound Server-1: ALSA v: k5.15.0-126-generic running: yes Sound Server-2: PulseAudio v: 15.99.1 running: no Sound Server-3: PipeWire v: 0.3.48 running: yes Network: Device-1: Intel Ethernet I225-V driver: igc v: kernel pcie: speed: 2.5 GT/s lanes: 1 port: N/A bus-ID: 01:00.0 chip-ID: 8086:15f3 class-ID: 0200 IF: enp1s0 state: up speed: 1000 Mbps duplex: full mac: <filter> Device-2: Realtek RTL8822CE 802.11ac PCIe Wireless Network Adapter vendor: AzureWave driver: rtw_8822ce v: N/A pcie: speed: 2.5 GT/s lanes: 1 port: e000 bus-ID: 02:00.0 chip-ID: 10ec:c822 class-ID: 0280 IF: wlo1 state: up mac: <filter> IF-ID-1: tailscale0 state: unknown speed: -1 duplex: full mac: N/A Bluetooth: Device-1: IMC Networks Bluetooth Radio type: USB driver: btusb v: 0.8 bus-ID: 2-1:2 chip-ID: 13d3:3549 class-ID: e001 serial: <filter> Report: hciconfig ID: hci0 rfk-id: 0 state: up address: <filter> bt-v: 3.0 lmp-v: 5.1 sub-v: 6d7d h

Linux Recommendation - Work is a RHEL/Windows Shop 9
Based on the fact that work is a RHEL/Windows shop, I'm thinking I want to install Fedora Workstation on one of my old MacBook Airs - a 2015 model. While we are moving to on-prem containerization and it's coming fast, we are not there yet. Based on this, is my thinking sound in wanting to install Fedora Workstation or does the version of Linux matter if I just want to learn the CLI and scripting and building systems? I don't know if it matters but I am taking a familiarization course on K8s. I am currently playing around and live booting Fedora but I'm having a hard time with the Broadcom WIFI drivers on the MBA - I'm in a catch-22 situation in that I need a network connection to download drivers for a network connection. Does one download the drivers and "sneaker-net" them over to the MBA or do I just buy a cheap WiFi dongle to install the drivers and then stick the dongle in a drawer to save for later?
