flrig keeps switching mode to USB
I am using flrig 2.0.01 and fldigi 4.1.26 on MacOS Ventura 13.4 with my Elecraft K4D. ?flrig is configured for rig type K4 and is using tcp/ip to connect to the rig. ?Whenever flrig starts or exits, it switches my rig's mode from CW-R, which is my standard operating mode, to USB. ?Since CW is the only mode I use, this is getting annoying. ?I have set the Mode drop-down choice in flrig to CW-R, but it still reverts to USB as described. ?I have looked in the flrig doc and the flrig menus for a setting that might be causing this, but I haven't found it. ?Can someone enlighten me? ?Thanks!
Steve, N5EP p.s.: ?My browser keeps changing "flrig" to "flirt"! ?Please ignore any "flirts" that slip through. ?:-( |

开云体育Steve,What do you have set for the Restore config?? "Use xcvr data" will take what the rig is set as and use if as flrig starts up. Personally I uncheck the "Use xcvr data" and check all the other boxes. That way flrig always starts up the way I left it the last time I was operating and on closing it leaves the rig setup as it was when I started flrig. If it does not work as above then there is a bug that needs fixing. 73, Cliff, AE5ZA

http://www.w1hkj.com/flrig-help/Ed, your only comment on the flrig help page link you posted was "Near the bottom of the page". ?The topic near the bottom of the page is "FSK Keyer", and above that is "CW Keyer", neither of which seem relevant. ?Five topics earlier there is a topic called "Memory File" that describes how the current values of operating frequency, mode and bandwidth can be saved to a memory file. ?Is this what you are referring to? ? The "Memory / Save" menu item saves not only the mode, but also the operating frequency and bandwidth. ?And this is not automatically restored the next time flrig is run. ?You have to use the "Memory / Manage" menu item and then pick the saved Freq/BW/Mode" combination that you want. ?I don't see having to do that every time I start flrig as a desirable solution. ?Wouldn't it be preferable for the software to just leave the rig in the configuration it was in when the rig was last turned off? ?Doing so wouldn't preclude also having a number of saved Freq/BW/Mode combinations that one could invoke if desired. After over a year of playing with this, I still can't get flrig (version 2.0.05, running on a mac Mini (M2 chip) with macOS Sonoma 14.6) to leave my Elecraft K4D transceiver's settings alone when the app starts. ?It always changes the mode ?to USB, reduces the filter bandwidth from whatever the prior setting was (usually 0.25 kHz) to 0.05, and reduces the volume to zero.
?
I have tried Cliff's suggestion of unchecking "Use xcvr data" and checking all the other boxes. ?I have tried checking and unchecking every combination of the boxes on the "Read / Restore these parameters" panel. ?I have repeatedly read and tried to implement the flrig help text's statement Check "Use xcvr data" if you want flrig to NOT change the transceiver operating state when it begins execution", but I can't get it to behave that way.
?
Are other K4 users of flrig experiencing this? ?What settings are others using (regardless of rig) to avoid changing the transceiver operating state when flrig begins execution? ?Is there a bug? ?It doesn't seem to behave as described in the documentation.

Frustrating!

Steve I feel your frustration but it still beats Windows. I have tried many distributions. Ran Linux Mint for about 3 years. Now I duel boot Linux Mint 21.2 and Fedora 40. Fedora works best for me on RTTY.? I am hopeful that one day there will be logging software available as good as Amateur Contact Log and N1MM.? I did have the same problem you described but on Mint with an IC-7300. I did have a box not checked.? Good luck with your endeavors! Bog W7ZDX? 开云体育Steve,Have you tried an all new flrig configuration? Just rename the .flrig directory and then start flrig an do a fresh setup. I've used flrig for years with a couple different radios and currently the IC-7300. It's never done that. 73, Cliff, AE5ZA

"Use xcvr data" is checked, but everything else is unchecked. This leaves my rig settings alone whenever I start or stop flrig. ?
This is with a Kenwood TS-570, but maybe it will work for you too?

开云体育That's good news Steve. It's a "when nothing else works" attempt. Sometimes it seems as if bits get out of place for no known reason and strange things happen. Sometimes the same thing has to be done with fldigi. Windows users seem to have many more issues than the other OSs.73, Cliff, AE5ZA
