Re: Y-ACC-2 Interface Cable

It looks like FTDX10 has 8 PIN mini DIN not 10. Would the pins be the same?

Re: Cable for FTDX10 + Z11-Pro 2

Thank you for your comments, N0YWB.? I was one of the confused. I built a DIN8 to TRS cable per another users implication that they got it to work and it failed to work for me.? So, I have a DIN10P cable (fully wired extension cable) on order, which I will cut and connect pins 3 and 10 to sleeve and tip, respectively, per the Y-ACC-2 wiring diagram (same as your primer above).? So, hopefully when I press TUNE on the Z-11 Pro II, I get a reduced power carrier and a tuned up LDG!? Do you know how much an FTDX10 reduces power when it gets a TX-REQ?

?

Re: Cable for FTDX10 + Z11-Pro 2

I see a lot of confusion and mis-assumptions being made regarding the use of LDG auto-tuners with Yaesu transceivers.?
??
NONE of the LDG autotuners directly interface with the serial communication of the Yaesu 8 pin mini-DIN tuner port, which ONLY works with the Yaesu FC- series tuners.?
TUNER SENSE (pin 6) on the 8 pin mini-DIN connector on the Yaesu transceiver goes low (FC- tuner connection to GND) to indicate an FC-series tuner is connected, but is otherwise not a control signal.?
See ? for reverse engineering of the Yaesu FC-30 serial commands.?
LDG discontinued the Y-QTT (Yaesu One-Touch-Tune) interface, which used a PIC micro to convert serial commands to/from the Yaesu 8 pin mini-DIN CAT/TUNER (TXD pin 4, RXD pin 5) into the discrete _START/_KEY signals to/from the LDG 3.5mm jack.?
(A great Github candidate would be an open source reverse-engineered replacement for the Y-OTT).?
?
All LDG autotuners have either the original 3.5mm TRS interface connector or the 8 pin mini-DIN connector on the Z-100A?
ALL LDG autotuner models operate the same, they just have different interface cable connectors:?
?LDG tuner +12V is mini-DIN pin 1, or center pin on a separate 2.5/5.5mm coaxial power plug on models with the 3.5mm TRS jack? ?
?LDG tuner common GND is 3.5mm SLEEVE, or mini-DIN pin 4.?
?LDG tuner input _START (3.5mm RING or mini-DIN pin 5) going low starts the tuning cycle, the same as pressing the button on the tuner.?
?LDG tuner output _KEY? (3.5mm TIP? or mini-DIN pin 6) signals the transceiver to transmit a REDUCED POWER carrier during tuning.? This connects to TX-REQ (pin 10 on the 10 pin mini-DIN LINEAR connector).??
See page 6 of https://hamoperator.com/HF/AH-4_Design_and_Operation.pdf to see the _START and _KEY signal timing.?
?
TX-REQ (pin 10 on the 10 pin LINEAR connector) signals the yaesu transceiver to REDUCE POWER and transmit a carrier for the autotuner.?
The Y-ACC-2 cable has no connection to the LDG 3.5mm RING (_START), since these is no compatible signal available fro? the Yaesu transceiver.?
You need to press the button on the tuner to initiate tuning. The Y-ACC-2 cable connection (TX-REQ) signals the Yaesu transceiver to transmit a REDUCED POWER carier.??
?
The LDG tuner manuals warn to never transmit more than 10 watts while tuning.?
This reduces wear to the arcing relay contacts and minimizes the chance of damage to the transceiver final amplifier due to momentary high SWR.?

Re: Cable for FTDX10 + Z11-Pro 2

Thank you for the diagram Jeff.? I purchased the TRS connector and a mini DIN 8 cable and soldered the GND pin to the sleeve and the Tuner Sense pin to the tip.? Powered down my radio, connected the DIN cable to the Tuner port and the TRS plug to the LDG Z-11 Pro II and set the radio's tuner setting to EXT.? When I press the tune button on the LDG tuner, nothing happens.? It is in semi-automatic mode.? How have you gotten the tuner to talk to the radio to get it to reduce power and send a carrier per the LDG manual?

Re: Differences between Z-100, Z-100A, and Z-100Plus?

HRO did sell the Z100/IC705.? Was same tuner, but it came with the command cable for the IC705 and the RF coax for connecting the 705 to the tuner (BNC to PL259 cable).? And the IC705 could command the tuner to tune in the menu.? Is a good combination, but the Z100 being a 100W tuner is much more than the 705 needs, but does work very well.

The Z100 can be powered from ext 12VDC or the 8 AA batteries that can be installed inside the tuner which is good for POTA type operation.?

I have the Z100/705 and pleased with it.

As for Z100 vs Z100A vs Z100plus I am sure they are the same tuner.? They just come with different accessories.

The Z100A uses a single 6 pin mini-DIN receptacle for control and power for a different family of transceiver interface cables.?
The _START and _KEY control signals and tuning firmware behave the same.?

?

Re: Y-ACC-2 Interface Cable

Typo: The 3.5 mm RING? on the tuner is _START, and is not connected.?

Re: Y-ACC-2 Interface Cable

T-ACC-2 cable pinout:?
The 3.5mm TIP (_KEY) on the tuner goes to pin 10 (TX-REQ) on the LINEAR receptacle.
The 3.5mm SLEEVE (GND) on the tuner goes to pin 3 (GND) on the LINEAR receptacle.?
The 3.5mm SLEEVE (_START) on the tuner is not connected,?so you will have to press the button on the tuner to start the tuning process.?
The benefit of using the control cable is the transceiver TX-REQ signal will cause the Yaesu transceiver to reduce power automatically while tuning.?
The LDG tuner manuals warn to never apply more than 10 watts while tuning, otherwise arcing of the opening inductor relay contacts will wear them out fast.?

I have a 1000 Pro ll. Used it for about a month and got an Amp that does 1.5 KW.? So I bought a new tuner that would handle that power. I didn't think the LED meter was accurate so I sent it in for repair before I sold it. They fixed it and replace an upgrade chip in it also. So it's still wrapped in the plastic it came back from LDG in. I bought this in late September last year. I want 425 for it.

Differences between Z-100, Z-100A, and Z-100Plus?

Hi Everyone,
I have a second hand Z-100 coming to me soon, so I've been reviewing the manuals and documentation for it to get myself acquainted. I've found that it seems to have been replaced by the Z-100A and Z-100Plus models, but I can't really tell the differences between them.?
?
For example, HRO sells the 100A and 100Plus....
100A -?
100Plus -?
?
...at the exact same price, $179, with seemingly identical specifications. The main difference I can see is that the 100A comes with interface cables, whereas the 100Plus seems not to. Both the 100A and 100Plus are in metal enclosures, where the 100 is in a plastic trapezoidal one, like the Z-817. The 100Plus uses a the same connectors as the 100, barrel jack for power + 3.5mm jack for interfacing with the radio, where the 100A uses an all-in-one miniDIN connector for power and radio interface. The specs/ratings I have found for all of them are, as far as I can tell, identical.
?
Is there something else here that I'm missing? Are all three of these the same thing, with minor aesthetic differences?
?
Thanks!

Hello everyone

So I also need to make this cabe for my FTDX10 / 200ProII. I downloaded?Y-ACC-2 CABLE.PDF and looking at it I see Wire Address table but it only lists Red end Black.
The TRS plug also lists 2 but there is no marking on DIN connector. Is it unused?

Re: Cable for FTDX10 + Z11-Pro 2

Hello everyone!

I thought I would circle back after I had an opportunity to build a cable for my Yaesu FT-DX10. Even though it was possible, I did not want to use the Linear port on the FT-DX10 to connect to my LDG Z-11 Pro 2 especially when there's a dedicated Tuner port.

Instead of using a 10-pin Mini-DIN as is found on the Y-ACC-2, I opted for an 8-pin Mini-DIN connector. I purchased (10-pack - they were cheap) from Amazon, as well as a high-quality .

I chopped the 8-pin Mini-DIN Serial RS232 cable in half, then used the continuity setting in my multi-meter to determine which wire corresponded to which pin on the Mini-DIN 8 connector. I located the wires corresponding to the pins that connect to the TUNER SENSE and GND sockets on the FT-DX10 and soldered them to the 1 and 3 positions respectively on a TRS connector.

Here's a diagram (PNG format) to show what I did:

I also attached a copy of the diagram in PDF format so it could be archived in the Files section here on Groups.io.

Thanks to everyone that responded.

Best Regards and 73!

I just up graded from the 600 to the 1000 but do not have a meter for the 1000. Will my M-600 work or are you using a different meter since they don’t make the M-1000 any more?

Thank you.

And two more ideas:

1)? Your antenna is exhibiting a higher impedance than the AT-100 Pro II can handle

2)? You have the rig's internal tuner enabled.? One or the other, but never both.

The AT-100 Pro II looks like it's performing normally.

AT-600 Pro II Apparent Heating

Now that my remoted AT-600 Pro II seems stable, I was surprised when the SWR rose while in an extended set of FT-8 QSOs running 100 watts.? I set the radio to FM and went key down.? This was putting out 100 watts into a tuner supposedly rated for 600 watts.? After a short time, the SWR started rising.? I doubt the heating is in the ferrite choke balun on the RG-8X between the tuner and the antenna.? The problem is worse as I go down in frequency, and is negligible on 20 meters.? It is probably manageable on 18, but worse on 30 and serious on 40 and 80.

I presume this is due to the Q of the coils in the tuner.? The options I have to feed the antenna, a 20' flagpole OCF dipole, are direct with a choke balun, a 1:1 ferrite core balun, and a 4:1 ferrite core balun.? I'm guessing that as I go down in frequency the antenna is becoming more capacitive and thus requiring more inductive loading.? If I put the 4:1 balun in that should cut the reactive component by a factor of 4, right?? That might solve my problem, at least at 100 watts.

Looking for suggestions....

Thanks,
