Winter condensation and mould

Last winter we kept our Lagoon 380 (Meerkat) on the hard in Cleopatra marina in Preveza, Greece.
Cleopatra do not allow mains power to be connected to unattended boats and so we could not run our dehumidifier over the winter.
When we opened the boat up in April there was a lot of condensation and black mould all over the inside of the boat.
We are considering solar powered fans mounted in two of the hatches to try and avoid a repeat of this problem this coming winter.
Does anyone have experience of using these type of fams or other suggestion to avoid the mould growing inside the boat.
The inside of the boat is dry - no leaks.? The only dampness is coming from the condensation.

Any help much appreciated.

Hi John

I have 4; one pulling Air in in the forward cabins and one pushing out in the stern cabins in each hull. Molds are gone and boat smells good and fresh. I leave them running any time I¡¯m not on the boat. I highly recommend solar fans.

I will probably add one in the bridge deck that pulls air in.?

We put 2 of these (Charcoal see attached photo) in each hull. 2 in the saloon we have never had mold or mositure. Once in the Seychelles 4 months Once in Thailand 3 months. The important thing is that the boat doesn't get opened once you set them off.?

Hello John
My Lagoon 380, Salila, is currently in Cleopatra and I plan to leave her there this winter for the first time. So it¡¯s useful to know there¡¯s a mould problem.
When she was on the hard in Trinidad everyone recommended wiping all surfaces with a very weak bleach solution, just a splash in a bucket of water. It did the trick and when I returned I could see the bits that had been missed.
It¡¯s a laborious job, but at least it means everywhere is clean. There was no lingering smell.
Cheers

ick. I *hate* this stuff. The crystal turn into the most horrific chemical slurry as they absorb moisture and are one use throw-away things.

I recommend the reusable silica gel granules instead.. they can be bought in bulk or already inside permeable bags. when they change color, pop them in microwave or oven to recharge. I¡¯ve got an air dryer on my air compresor that is filled with these and even after 10+ uears of use, it has not needed recharge, so they can last quite a long time. ?You can also get them in food-grade in little packets if you like your salt in a skakeable format ?

I¡¯ve used these to keep containers of clothing mold-free in containers in the tropics, but there¡¯s no reason to pay for food-grade if it is not going in food. ?

Thanks for the solar fan suggestion.

Could you please send a link of which kind you are using?

Much appreciated!

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions.? I haven't heard of the bleach idea before so might be worth a try.? Solar fans also seem to be a favourite so we might also have a go at fitting these before the winter.

John wipe the complete interior with distilled white vinegar before closing her up... ?lasts 6-8 months before any mold can get a grip... it¡¯s a great cleaner as well.

At the 450 all cabins have vents at the big hatches. I leave them open (it has never rained in), and leave open also all doors to cabins and toilets. I haven't had any problems with mildew yet, except on my rainwear in the closed closet.?Also have been on the hard in Cleopatra. (Wouldn't let any more work be done there, the Saildrive oil was still milky after the paid oil change in my absence -, during the removing of the impeller of the generator they damaged the water pump - and instead of admitting that I was billed for more useless repairs. Finally this had to be repaired by another shipyard.)?
