Re: 220v systems in the US
Tim Brewer
We just purchased a 2014 400 S2 with 220 EU as well.? A couple of points I have been told
1. Many of the concerns?I have read was that the wiring requirements are lighter for a 220 vs a 110.? Where that is true I was also told that Lagoon wires their boats to meet the higher grade wire requirements of?US system whether it is a 220 or a 110.? 2. If you look on your PC, your Apple devices and many of the other phones you will see most are able to use 110 or?220 so all?that is needed?an adapter plug as noted.? ?We have a Sailright sewing machine and I was concerned about the use of that machine.? The machine states it will run of 50 or 60 so all that is needed is a converter that is greater than the max amps listed on the machine.? I usually go up 20% to 30% higher as most motors driven devices?to have some peak pulls.? I contact Sailright directly and they recommended the option of running the converter but do also sell conversion motors and foot pedals?of you desire. 3, I think the other suggestions are right on that having a handful of adapter plugs (very cheap item) and a few converters?(also available in different sizes at reasonable rates) will accommodate?about all your needs.? If you have a ton of money I have seen boats rewired for both but have never seen a final price tag.? We intend to cruise mostly outside of the US so 220 was good for us and does not seem to be too much of an adjustment if needed.? Breweraz?SVQ4 ? |

Re: First haul for bottom paint
Vin Ratford
I am on East Coast & have been to Carib & back. L450, use Micron CSC Shark White. Get ~ 2 years. Use propspeed which lasts ~ 3-4. Application of Propspeed is important. Have it done by Pro. If you want to chat glad to discuss further. I have diver clean bottom ever 6 weeks in summer months. Boat is idle from Nov-May.

Re: First haul for bottom paint
开云体育Not sure about paint back here in the US, but I used PropSpeed on my saildrives and props- it’s amazing for 12 months, great for 18, then good for 24, then almost worthless after. But that was while cruising full time. Not sure how well it works sitting in the marina. The slippery silicone-like finish requires a little gentle tlc / kid gloves to keep it working... First haul for bottom paint
After almost 2 years from launch its time to haul and bottom paint. ?I'm west coast US, so they don't really like copper paint. ?In fact the marinas will give priority to boats looking for slips if they don't have copper. ? |

Re: 220v systems in the US
We have had our 220v wired boat in the US for a year now. ?We live aboard and are docked, so have use plenty of power on a continual basis. ?We have A/C, washer/dryer, TVs, kitchen appliances, etc.?The marina we are in actually runs 208v 60h. ?We are on an end tie, so actually usually only get about 204v. ?We also have 2 boat side plugs, 32A and 18(?)a. ?
When we were looking at the boat, we were worried about this as well. ?But the value on the boat was worth the risk.? After a year. - Happy as can be. ?We have very little issues. ?But you do have to think through stuff. We have several inverters on the boat. ?I have 1 500w in the galley for misc appliances. ?Things that take much power don't work, so you have to plan accordingly. ?We also added 220v EU plugged appliances (toaster over, microwave, toaster). ?All purchase off of amazon or eBay. ?No issues with any of them. ? I have a second inverter for TV/stereo electronics. ?Most will handle 110v/220v. ?But some don't. ?Plug accordingly. ?Laptops, cell phones, etc all just plug into the 220v system, with cheap plug adapters. ?I bought a box of 12 plug adapters on eBay for like $5. We were worried about the A/C. ?But ran it frequently late summer, last year. ?The only issue we had was an occasional "low voltage" shutdown on the big salon A/C unit. ?But this is because its getting 203v(ish) and its not while about that. ?When we have been places with proper 220v, no issues with the 60h vs 50h. ? The only thing we can't run off of shore power is the washer/dryer. ?It really wants the 50h. ?So we use the marina facilities, which frankly is a lot faster. ?Or, for that small load of delicates that the Admiral wants done, we run the generator. ?Give me an opportunity to run it to cycle fuel anyway. ? Things that don't work - Guests hair dryers and hair straighteners. ?I try to tell them that you are on a boat and put it up on a ponytail. ?But some like to see the flash and blue smoke of their favorite hair appliance when they plug in. ?We did buy a 220v EU plug hairdryer on amazon, just so I can say I have one. Generally, its 98% painless. ?You do have to think though new stuff, and know what things draw, power wise. ?But it really hasn't been a problem at all. ?I would buy another 220v50h EU boat in a heartbeat. ? Hope that helps. -- Stuart S/V Rum Away 2017 Lagoon 450S #33 |

Windlass Problem: The Quick "Doesn't Fit" - What About the Lofren Tigress Windlass Instead?
My 14 year old Leroy-Somers Windlass failed on my Lagoon L-440 (Hull #20; 2004 model year) and this 14 year old Leroy-Somers Windlass is "beyond repair."? (Leroy-Somers was purchased by Emerson which discontinued this line of Windlass).? ? To compound the problem, my original Leroy-Somers Windlass? was a "horizontal model" and the "first" recommended replacement for my Leroy-Somers was the Quick Dylan 1700 - but this Windlass only comes as a? "vertical model" and Multitech/Lagoon has suggested as a solution to purchase a "Lofrans-Tigress" Windlass which has been successfully installed on another older Lagoon L-44 and will work in the horizonta windlass configuration on my vessel.

So - Question:? Any thoughts out there on:
*Horizontal vs. Vertical configuration of the Quick Dylan 1700 (my horizontal configuration won't enable the Quick to be successfully installed...so says Lagoon)
*Lofrans Tigress:? Anybody have any success with this brand?? And any recommended dealer (Multitech doesn't carry the Lofran-Tigress)?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

220v systems in the US
How well do used Lagoons purchased?overseas function in the US? Are there lots of problems? I've heard it's dangerous, but have never heard about nor read an incident report. I understand the electrical difficulties, but how successfully have people navigated this without changing out wiring, etc?

Re: USA shore power cables for Lagoon
#'s
If I understand Jeff's question, he is just asking about the shore power plug and factory made cords, and not the deeper issues of euro vs US shore power usage.
ques1- Short answer, no. You either have to change your boat side connector, or use a made adapter as you described. No factory made cords I know of that give US one end, euro on other. ques2- Smart not needed, could be nice, but I don't use, doesn't change anything but shape and fit of plug. Amp draw is only dictated by appliances and breaker that trips to limit. (deeper discussion of US split phase vs euro single phase not withstanding) ques3- 30 amp breaker(if I understand is what you say you have) at 220v works fine in US. Amps are amps, 240/220/120. So you will be limited to 30 no matter what. Wire changes as described, or 50 amp breaker on shore, doesn't hurt boat. Burnt plugs... well, there is burnt and there is BURNT ;) As Rob said, could be bad connection/corrosion increasing resistance at connector, or just too much draw from appliances.? Contacts that need a little burnishment wouldn't scare me. Connectors melting and arcing scares me... some. The concern here wouldn't be 'hurting' internal wiring of boat, so much as causing fire at connector. At risk of starting a 'flame' war(no pun intended) I've seen burnt condition that ran for a long time and didn't hurt anything. Obviously you address when you discover. HOWEVER, as strict question of US vs euro, HIGHER voltage in US?means LOWER or same amperage for same work. So in theory, if average boat load wasn't starting fires in Europe, you won't start fires at connector in US. Corrosion or tightness of connection most likely cause if significant. Important to note for conversational purposes that in US 110/115 usually means 120, and 230 usually means 240. Is just the old way of saying because of older standards. All US utility is nowadays 240/120. At risk of being one of those that doesn't?answer direct questions, I've got a couple of follow ups to comments that might be helpful to others. Ignore if not needed: -the issue of Lagoons with proper sized internal wiring for 110v conversion has been addressed in other forums, Lagoon states they pre wire all boats for either. i.e. the stuff they use is big enough from factory for 110v throughout boat(for std 15 amp circuits). I can confirm this, at least with my 2011 500. (more details, please ask) -Stuart mentioned 208v, which sounds like he's plugged into a three phase circuit. Seems odd, and I've never seen on dock, but probably exceeds my experience level. I'll just say generally that you should always encounter 240 single phase 60hz in US(excepting voltage drops). That could also be split to single 120v legs on each dock box(happens a lot in Mexico and on older docks) Big key here is 60hz or PHASE, vs Euro 50 phase. You didn't ask about it, so I won't address, but if you need more info please let me know. |

Lagoon 380 S2 Pre-wiring?
Stephan Bradley
Hello all,
We have a 2017 Lagoon 380 with standard toilets and I want to change them out for electric. ?I checked everything before I left the boat in Grenada except the wiring!! Does anyone know if the 380 is pre-wired to add electric toilets? ?I know the markings for where the button is to be located are scratched into the wall. Thanks, Stephan |

Re: Lagoon 500 window bedding
Rick, Rob & James,
Thanks a lot. My glue seems fine as there's no water coming into the saloon. But, there's one area where the outer sealant is letting water into the deck. I think I'll follow Rick's lead here. Sikaflex abounds here in Australia, so heading that route. I'll let you know how it turns out. About the Leopards. Yep. We sailed a Leopard 40 (2008) from the Caribbean to Australia a couple of years back and met several people who had the faulty bedding. It was a specific year range, before 2008. What a mess that was for those folks. Paul |

Here are a couple that are 30A, 10sec delay, and look to be pin-compatible.? No-name Chinese mfg, but cheap enough to just buy a handful of them so you have a couple of spares on hand...

Thanks for the leads. ?I found some on the UK sites but need to get them quickly. ?Looking for something pin compatible. ?As a backup I ordered this...even though it’s 10 A vs the 20 for the ETA unit. ?

Re: Does anyone know a source for the timer relay in the showers on L450 other than Lagoon
开云体育Can't easily search now but I think?there was a big thread on this on the cruisersforum.com in the Lagoon section. Will search later but wanted to put this up now. I think an Omron relay possibly if I remember? Do remember they found an adjustable relay as well. |
