Re: Bow Compartment Fitted Out

Soak up all the water in your bilges with a towel until completely dry. Let it sit a few days and look for new water. Run your engines for a? while and check again for new water. Run all your water pumps bilge, fresh water, toilets, shower sumps, check for new water. ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]>

Beam of Lagoon 43 PC
I need to pull my boat for a paint job by a local contractor.? Lagoon lists it's beam as 6.42 m or 21.06 feet. The boatyard manager (who I suspect doesn't especially care about new business) tells me that his well will only accommodate boats less than 21 feet. I'm fairly sure that my cat would fit as the well doesn't have any walls above waterline at high tide. Anyone with a similar experience? Does anyone know what the beam of my boat is at the waterline?

how does turning upwind help depower boat ? Would not you get higher apparent wind ?
What is the plan when you get sudden squall say 40 kn during night? |

we bought our parasailor prior to crossing the Atlantic for our 421 in 2013. In answer to your question was it worth the $$$ the answer is a definite YES! During the crossing from Canaries to St Lucia we flew it for 10 days straight (out of 18 for the crossing) in winds up to 28-30 knots. We had a rule to turn up wind if wind got over 22 knots and drop the sail over 28. Since the crossing my wife and I have sailed over 20,000 miles and the Parasailor is still my favorite sail. Its easy to fly with two people and great from 180 to about 100 degrees true wind. The big benefit being the sail is extremely stable and needs little adjustment even going down a wave. You can see from the attached polar that the performance crossing the Atlantic was very consistent at most wind angles.? I constructed the polar from the hourly log rather than recorded wind and boat speed which we didn't have. We have had it round to 90 degrees in light winds and performed excellently (7knots in 10-12 knot wind) but would say conventional sails (Genoa/main) easier with less hassle particularly recovering. I also considered a code zero to improve upwind light wind performance but decided that it was not worth it due to the wind speed limitations around 20 knots. You can see as wind speed picked up we turned more upwind to reduce possibility of pitchpoling Happy sailing Dave ?

Wow, what a beast ! I have 76m2 gennaker on furler that can furl from cockpit. Never issue with furling, but is 1/2 size of your spi.
Do you find furling to be satisfactory ? Plan to have sock for spi, so i can release in emergency, via dyneema rope to cockpit, and then douse.? Do you find your spi valuable for passage making? |
Re: Spi block - reinforcement
#lagoon400
Our asymmetric is 146m2 on a top down furler. It gets a bit scary in over 20kts but the boat and the sail have survived gusts to the high 20s. In San Pablo Bay (San Francisco) it was pulling us at 8kts with an 8kt breeze from just behind the beam. Coming in the Golden Gate we got caught off guard when the wind jumped from 10 to 25 and we could not furl it, so we left it out planning to douse it in the lee of Alcatraz. When we got there the wind was perfect again so it stayed up all the way back to Alameda.

Hi Alex,
Actually, I bought my Parasailor several years ago and got the boat rigged to fly it but then life got in the way and the boat has been on the hard for a couple of years.? My only experience flying it was a day of training on the dealer's boat in Tampa Bay
and I loved it!
My interest in the Parasailor came from a crossing I made from San Francisco to Hawaii a number of years ago.? The 16-day trip was mostly downwind and we spent a lot of time screwing around with the two headsails flying wing on wing.? It was a pita because
one of them was always trying to collapse when we got slightly off of dead downwind.? The Parasailor would have been far better!??
Whether it's worth the money or not is an individual choice.? After years of planning and preparation, my wife and I are looking forward to finally going cruising this fall/winter and we are very excited to have the Parasailor as a sail option!

Re: Lagoon 380 bat cats
if you have square top you need slides.?
My boat originally had non-square top and top car with balls that worked fine. I had to replace top 2 cars - larger and slides when installing new square top sail. Guys at incidence sails are knowledgeable with this as they know all lagoon models into details and what is required for smooth operation.? |
Re: Spi block - reinforcement
#lagoon400
thanks, that is much better idea than screws. I have relatively small symmetric = 100m2 and will just observe while under load. Using it for 120-150 app. It is my suspicion that cracks near first screw are due to hull flexing, for example when sitting on hard. Most of time we use carbon screecher that allows for great sub 10 kn wind sailing.?
Playing with idea to add large assymetric 135m2, anyone has beast like that on L 400 ? Parasailor... add some $$$ for reinforcements. For me i do not like it, runs well only without mainsail.? |

Hi,
I needed to add padeyes for my Parasailor guy blocks and was also concerned about flexing and cracking in that area of the bows.? I added a considerable amount of reinforcement to the underside of the deck in the form of filler blocks and glass cloth.? My boat
has the same screws but their purpose appears to have been to hold the hull to deck joint together during construction.? That joint was securely bonded so I did not disturb the screws or add any more.

Noticed that my bow screw has some gelcoat cracks so thinking to reinforce by adding 3 more screws. Anyone has done that before, or has better idea? |
Re: Spi block - reinforcement
#lagoon400
i have done further testing and removed the screw all together. Then used spi halyard around block and tighten to create considerable pulling force - vibrating spi halyard in hte wind. I could not detect any movement of deck to hull in the area, so if it is must be less than say 0.02mm.?
Suggests to me reinforcement with screws is not needed and maybe not good idea - getting unnecessary cracks due to hull flexing. There is another counter force doing the job - guess whole area is glued to allow for flexing?! Also, crack probably caused by hull flexing, as spinnaker forces are catered for.?? |
