Re: 380 S2: Separating windlass from port engine

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI removed the relay on my 440. ?I found that it worked by interrupting the ground on the windlass solenoid. ?I just wired that directly to ground and now you can run the windlass without an engine running. Jerry

Re: 380 S2: Separating windlass from port engine
#380s2
Hi, i had the same problem on my 410 and i simply removed the relay that was next to my port engine, the current now flows unimpeded and this allowes me to be able to use the windlass without the engine running, i still start the engine when i want to use it but if my port engine failed i would be able to raise/lower my anchor, a major safety concern.
The relay was on the right side of the engine, a small green and white square. Hope this helps, Serge Thiffault Lagoon 410S2 #156 Francesca In florida |

Hello ?I know there is a thread on this forum where someone explains that the critical Relais is on the bulkhead under the sofa, close to the fridge. Interestingly it¡¯s not like that in our boat (380 S2, 2008, Hull 519).?

Re: Emergency Hatch Recall
Is it typical for the fixed glass escape hatches to leak or is this a sign of impending failure?
One of our escape hatches leaked on a recent upwind passage. We found the window frame full of water the day after the passage. I am concerned because we are doing the Baja Bash back to California and will be sailing upwind for about 1000 miles. Thanks Alex sv Seachelle, Lagoon 400 S2 #434 |
Re: 220 vs 110 power
They never do, do they? I ordered a second washer/dryer part number, and used same on both. Working great for about two years now. |
Re: 220 vs 110 power
James,
As noted in my original post, we do have a washer/dryer. ?But only run it on the GenSet due to the 50/60hz issue. ?That is really the only thing that I would consider a "hassle" of having the 220v in the US. ?But if we are tied up, we use the local "fluff and fold" service. ?If we are on a hook somewhere we would use the genset anyway. ? For me the little bit of work around was well worth not having to rewire everything. ?We were up and running happily the first weekend on the boat. ?But we did smoke a few guest's hair straighteners and driers when they didn't pay attention to the pre-trip briefing about what was allowed and what to leave at home. ?;-). First time it happened I was asked "why did blue smoke just come out of my hair drier?". ?My reply was "Because you didn't listen to the Captain." -- Stuart S/V Rum Away 2017 Lagoon 450S #33 |
Re: 220 vs 110 power
Stuart, do you have a dishwasher or washer/dryer from Europe? If so, eventually you¡¯ll hit docks where they¡¯ll not drain. Run too fast and cavitate. The 208 thing makes them sometimes work, but it¡¯s usually a crap shoot.

Re: 220 vs 110 power
Yes, wiring wise can be used straight away on a 240 dock, and conversion to 110/240 is fairly straight forward. Otherwise, rewiring outlets to 110 will work, and panel can be rewired as well. I reused all my Legrand breaker panel, plus i kept a select number of 220 Shucko plugs cross connecting to appliance circuits, and added 110 at same locations using the existing wiring. Took me awhile, but i figured out i had ¡®Vimar¡¯ brand outlets and plates. Found a place to order same so all would match. Made beautiful install. Amps just happened to work out right for me per breaker, but that¡¯s a consideration you must make for yourself.

Re: 220 vs 110 power
I have a 450S in 220v in the US. It is totally doable to have 220v here. ?But you do have to pay a little more attention. ?
Things we have learned. ?Have appliances that are 220v on board to use and for guests. ?This includes toaster, microwave, blender, hair dryers, etc. ?Our boat also has the round Euro plugs, so this was a little harder, but Amazon and the internet solved all of this. ? We lived aboard for 2 years. ?The one area that was a bit of a hurdle was running the A/C. ?Our dock was 208v and we were end tie, so was typically 203v-204v by the time it got to us. ?We would occasionally get low voltage errors on the main salon A/C. ? Someone will also start talking about 50hz/60hz and motor speeds, etc. ?It will likely be accurate, but in the two years we lived aboard we never had issues. We also have a washer/dryer that will only work on 220v/50hz. ?So we would run the generator for that, if we couldn't use the one in the marina. ? Finally, we keep a couple plug in inverters for things that were 110v only. ?Again, Amazon and both are up to 500v with a 220v pass through. For the lower price we were able to get a 220v in the US (picked up in St. Marteen) we would absolutely do it again. ?And I see no reason to rewire anything. ? Shoot me an email if you have any specific questions. Stuart -- Stuart S/V Rum Away 2017 Lagoon 450S #33 |
Re: Flexifold prop issue
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi, it's possible you have mixed up the blades from each sail drive. I contacted flexofold about a problem I had refitting props and they mentioned each prop blade set is matched. Something to consider,

on fitting new props to original sail drives (similar but different), our mechanic took considerable care in shimming the props so that they did not "bind" on the shafts, the shims came with the prop. Suggest looking into the installation instructions for the props. The new shaft splines are likely to be a slightly different length ... so props may need shimming. Flexifold prop issue
Hi all
I have a 2010 440 ¡®TEQUILA SUNSET¡¯...and am on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia I had the Sd 50s replaced with the updated sd60s and since then have had issues with drive from the Flexifold 3 blade props. Prior to that no issue at all, turn both ways on a dime! At present the sb prop won¡¯t open when going astern... all other drives are fine. Linkages are fine... shafts are spinning fine in both directions but prop won¡¯t open in astern drive. Props and shafts are as clean as a whistle and there has been no damage to them. Yanmar agent who did the work won¡¯t come to view the issue despite 2 booked appointments. Anyone have any similar experiences or suggestions? Cheers Rex |
Re: Emergency Hatch Recall
Mine have been glassed in many years ago. We don't have any hatches between the hulls. On March 5, 2020 at 7:34 PM "nigiil via Groups.Io" <nigiil@...> wrote: |
Re: Emergency Hatch Recall
I'll add that you should periodically inspect the rivets that hold the latch strikes to the frame for galvonic corrosion. If you replace them be sure to use tefgel on them to make them last longer. I've replaced the seals on mine once and they do not leak after 25ys. If you stay up on the maintenance you should have no problems with them.? Rick? Re: Emergency Hatch Recall
The issue with the recall involves fixed tempered glass escape hatches that one breaks in order to use. The glass is glued in and can fall out if the sealant fails. The original escape hatches on the TPI built boats are regular Lewmar Coastline hatches just like all of the rest. Because the hardware attaches to the 8mm acrylic lenses directly, even if the glue failed the lense would stay in place.? On Mar 5, 2020 17:57, "mark.barbian" <mbarbian@...> wrote: Hi All, |
Re: Emergency Hatch Recall
Hi All,
I own an early 42TPI and for years those hatches have scared the stuff out of me. Under passage in a good sea the panels just get pounded. Scary, but I just keep thinking those have been doing their job for years. So I was concerned when I heard about the recall. I don¡¯t think I have those hatches since mine have hatch handles, albeit frozen in place, which would hold the acrylic panel in place in case there was a glazing failure. Could someone quickly confirm that the hatches in question don¡¯t have hatch handles. thanks, Mark? |
