I have had 2 Lipo banks fail on 2 different lagoons and would not recommend them.
The real issue I feel is to cruise comfortable you need to simplify systems not make them more complex.
Adding any system which requires constant monitoring such as lipos will sooner or later lead to faults -
either the sensor goes bad - or your monitoring or or or
One happened on a passage between NZ and Fiji the other failure in Port in New Caledonia -
both times we could not get LIPO's repaired or sent in as NO AIRLINE will accept them as airfreight !
This alone makes LIPO's an experimental tool at best - in 10 years - maybe - right now it's the bleeding edge IMHO and I'm not in the mood to give more blood .
And with regards to electric motoring - on a passage from Xmas Island to Hawaii with sustained 27-35 knots of winds for 11 days coming from 60 degrees we had to motor sail 80% of the 1000 nm trip - so if your engines can't run for 10 days straight - why have them in the first place ?
