The maximum working load (MWL) for the Harken 46 Winch is 1300 Kg. New price Online $1700.00
The maximum working load (MWL) for the Harken 60 Winch is 1800 Kg. New price Online $4000.00
Subjecting the winch to loads above the maximum working load can cause the winch to fail or
pull off the deck suddenly and unexpectedly during high loads causing severe injury or death.
Quote taken from Harken's own installation manual.
I very much doubt that anybody in Lagoon or else where, will tell you it is OK for you to use a winch that has a (MWL) 500kg bellow that of the OEM specified working load.
The new price of the 46 is allready a fraction (aprox 40%) of the new price of the 60's to start with. So a pair of second hand units would look an attractive price compared to new 60's.
With the cost of the new Genekar, bow sprit, winches and there intallation, are you actually saving that much in scheme of things. One failure or mishap with undersized equipment could potentially cost you much more than you save on the original installation.
Only my opinion for what it is worth.
