My engine hours faded into failure when the boat was 3 years old and everyone has assured me this is almost to be expected wether you have Yanmar, Volvo or any other brand. I was advised to, and have installed, separate engine hour counters in each engine bay. I was also assured that the new counters would continue to count the total number of hours - they didn¡¯t - they started again at zero.
I was able to note the original hours (600) in my log before the original counters failed altogether. Now every time I note the hours I start with ¡°600+¡±. It¡¯s a small pain but not awful.
If your buyer queries the hours and your explanation refer them to any Yanmar diesel engineer and let them read your logbook.
