Screen Latest Film from Director/Actor Naoto Takenaka

Film & Video Festival will screen the latest film from Japanese
director/actor Naoto Takenaka, "RENDAN: A QUARTET FOR TWO" at 11 AM on June 2
and June 3 at the Laemmle¡¯s Monica 4 Plex Theatre located at 1332 Second
Street, Santa Monica.
"RENDAN: A QUARTET FOR TWO" is the latest film by actor-director Naoto
Takenaka. Best known internationally for his hilarious, scene stealing role
in the US released SHALL WE DANCE?. Takenaka is also an award-winning
director (Venice Film Festival for NOWHERE MAN in 1992). "RENDAN" is
Takenaka¡¯s fourth outing as a director. It is an intimate, character-driven
piece that delivers laughs and tears in equal measures.
"RENDAN" is a contemporary family drama featuring a portrait of two young
children as they adjust to the breakup of their parents¡¯ marriage. At the
same time, it¡¯s a very touching comedy enlivened by surreal musical
interludes and Takenaka¡¯s own very physical humor.
"RENDAN: A QUARTET FOR TWO" was originally planned to screen at the VC Film
Fest 2001 in May, but as the print did not arrive in time, Visual
Communications is presenting this special screening as a one weekend
