WHAT: The Japanese American Cultural & Community
Center presents a double bill of jazz featuring
acclaimed jazz pianist Deems Tsutakawa and saxophonist
Jeff Kashiwa in concert.
Seattle native and smooth jazz pianist Deems Tsutakawa
combines R&B, pop, and mainstream jazz into what he
calls "contemporary soul jazz." An acclaimed and
imaginative composer, arranger and bandleader,
Tsutakawa has released six albums to date on his
self-produced label, "J-Town Records." He has
performed worldwide in concert halls and clubs, from
Seattle to Tokyo to London and worked with recording
stars Kenny G, Roy Ayers, Tony Gable, Julienne
Priester and opened concerts for Spyrogyra, Hiroshima
and Maynard Ferguson.
Jeff Kashiwa, former sax player with the
internationally renowned Rippingtons, brings his own
contemporary, smooth jazz sounds with his Southern
California-based band for this special engagement.
