The City of Pasadena is the site of the California Department of Education’s
second annual conference on arts education, May 17 - 19. Delaine Eastin,
California’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Barry Hessenius,
Director of the California Arts Council will present the opening speeches to
more than 400 teachers, administrators, artists, arts organizations and
parents. Workshop sessions will provide school districts and communities
with self-study, self-assessment and planning protocols for establishing
quality, standards-based arts education programs for all students.

“We chose Pasadena because of the School District’s renewed commitment to
arts education and because of the city’s diverse arts community,” states
Patty Taylor, the Consultant for Arts Education for the State Department of
Education. “Arts education in Pasadena results from a productive partnership
between school and community and serves as an excellent model for other
谤别驳颈辞苍蝉.”

Jonathan Glus, Pasadena’s Director for the Arts, explains, “This conference
makes explicit a broad vision of education in the arts. It sets the delivery
of arts programs and the improvement of student learning in the arts as a
community priority.”

The primary goal of this project is to provide the basis for outstanding arts
education programs for all California students at each grade level by
connecting school districts to their entire community of thinkers, learners,
and arts providers and to arts education communities throughout the state.
