St. Tammany and area birders....... This is Not exactly bird related, but
this impact birds and wildlife. Someone else may have mentioned it a while
back but it slipped my radar.
St. Tammany parish has a Multi Modal Transportation plan, open for public
comment. Comments close TOMORROW 10/25. I'm going to make a few points
about it: It is not multi-modal, they only address cars (NO public
transportation whatsoever). They mention the trace, but nobody is going to
use their bicycle to ride from Slidell to Covington to go shopping, that is
strictly recreational use.
AMost important, they are going to carve up most of the forested and
wetland area between mandeville and slidell, for new "transportation"
modes. Anybody that lives here knows this is not where the congestion is.
So the only reason to add new roads here is to open up all of those areas
for subdivision developoment, simply becasue the land owners and
develoipers can make more money from new subdivisions instead of managed
forests. And WE will pay for these rodas for them.
This will not help traffic congestion one iota. There is a very scarce
mention of environmental, no mention of habit or wetland destruction They
even plan to bring Industrial RAIL back! (no light passenger rail to get
from one place to another, of course). Check out page 88-89 to see the new
green roads in these areas. I'm sure other areas of the praish are affected
as well, i just saw this yesterday and zoomed in on the middle of the
parish. Not to mention they want to put a service road through my property
next to my house.
I know this is late, please take a minute to read at least these few pages,
and send comments to MMTP@.... here are 2 links to the plan..
