26 March 2022 Dear Residents of la Aldea, It was heartwarming to see the large turnout at the Annual Meeting on March 24, including many new faces. Obviously, residents are concerned about the future of la Aldea. Perhaps for the first time, we had a quorum of members present. The results of the voting at the meeting were as follows: Of 23 ballots cast, 20 supported “the continuation of a volunteer Aldea Committee, to manage and operate Barrio la Aldea.” The nominees for the Committee were Charles “Carlos” Soberman, Jane Wilkinson, Mary Li, Simon Li-Arts and Pilar Véjar. There was some minor confusion about who were the candidates, but all are eligible as dues paying members, and all were elected by a substantial majority of the votes cast. All have agreed to serve on the Committee. I will continue as President and Jane Wilkinson will also remain on the Committee. This will ensure a continuation of the Committee’s past work. The third vote was for “an orderly transition to opening Aldea to full City services….” 17 voters did not support this, and 6 were in favor. I made an effort in the presentation to take no personal stand and make no recommendations on how to vote. Whether or not you were present at the meeting, you had an opportunity to understand the issues and to vote. There was meaningful discussion among those present before voting. In the days since the meeting, there has been an overwhelmingly positive outpouring by members of the community. It has been an honor to serve as President of the Committee for the past three years, and to work with Javier Garcia Barrera, Jane Wilkinson, David Goadby, as well as past members Donna Lynes-Miller, Mary Li and Ron Lennox. The source of employment: The ?employment? defined by the Mexican legal dictionary is: the ?action and effect of employment or destination, occupation, trade or profession?. Therefore, the source of employment is understood to be the place where the worker carries out his activities or the place that provides a job. We have two types of employment in Mexico, one being formal, and the other being informal. A) The “formal agreement” has a recognized employment relationship and has access to employment law such as Social Security, Service Payment, Christmas bonus, vacation, vacation premiums, seniority, etc., B) “Informal employment” is where there is no recognition of an employment relationship and therefore no benefits or labor rights that are established for a worker. Some examples of an informal worker would be a plumber, painter, mechanic or as a prime example a taxi or Uber driver, i.e., self-employed, or subcontractors. The Employer: For legal purposes, the ?employer?, is a figure that is defined by our Federal Labor Law as follows: – An employer is the natural or legal person who uses the services of one or more workers. We are allowing for an extensive question & answer session. We need a full turnout of residents, to represent each la Aldea home. Votes will need to be taken on issues that will be important to you. Los trabajadores necesitan acceso completo a los grandes árboles en el lado norte de Santa Cruz. El aerosol podría da?ar la pintura del vehículo. El día anterior (lunes) se colocarán avisos en los parabrisas de todos los vehículos estacionados a ambos lados de Santa Cruz. Saludos Tu Comité la Aldea Dear Aldea Residents, A 2nd application of tree spraying along Santa Cruz will be done on Tuesday, March 1st. The workers need full access to the large trees on the north side of Santa Cruz. The spray could damage vehicle paint. The day before (Monday), notices will be placed on the windshields of all vehicles parked on either side of Santa Cruz.
